Part-Time - SUPERIOR & DISTRICT COURT BAILIFF

Job Status: Part-Time Salary: $17.13 per hour Workweek Basis: Varies depending on court hours and demands. FSLA: Non-Exempt Benefits: NONE Position will remain open until filled.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Check courtroom and jury room for cleanliness. Check and maintain courtroom and jury room for security. Ensure availability of supplies for judges, parties, witnesses, and jury. Ensure courtroom procedures are followed and all parties are present and ready for court. Announce entrance of judge. Enforce courtroom rules of behavior and warn people not to disturb court procedures. Assist counsel and litigants in passing exhibits and other documents among witnesses, opposing parties, judge, and jury. During jury trials, serve as liaison between court and jury and provide jury escort to other areas outside the courtroom to prevent jury contact with the public. Ensure the jury is kept from viewing criminal defendants in handcuffs, leg irons, jail clothing, etc., when appropriate. Report need for police or medical assistance to Sheriff’s Office. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. First aid training/certification, familiarity with legal proceedings, and law enforcement and/or security experience are highly desirable. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to attorneys, members of the public, and other county employees. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Activity of the Position: Crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, light work, and dress requirements. Business casual clothing is appropriate for the courtroom. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
