Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a meaningful impact by providing dedicated sign language interpretation for an elementary student in a supportive school environment. This position is based on-site, ensuring direct engagement with both students and staff. You’ll work one-on-one, facilitating effective communication for a young learner and collaborating closely with educators to promote inclusion and academic success.
Key Qualifications:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or equivalent credential required
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting within educational settings, preferably at the elementary level
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit professionalism at all times
- Flexible mindset and commitment to supporting students with unique needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one ASL interpretation for an elementary student during class activities, special programs, and school interactions
- Assist teachers and school staff in creating accessible learning experiences
- Adapt interpreting methods to match the student’s learning style and classroom demands
- Foster an inclusive educational environment by bridging communication between the student, peers, and staff
- Maintain accurate records of interpreting services and student progress as directed
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate on strategies for student engagement and development
