Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Previous travel experience Description: Unit includes 32 beds with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:06. Common diagnoses and types of patients include respiratory diagnoses and various medical conditions. This unit treats an age-specific population, including adults and geriatrics. Experience in Med-Surg, Telemetry, critical drips, and trach care is required. Peritoneal dialysis experience is preferred. MS/Tele nurses with a strong cardiac background are encouraged to apply. RNs are required to titrate various drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Lasix, Dopamine, and Amiodarone. Monitor Techs are available 24/7, and although Charge RNs read strips, RNs are expected to review strips each shift. Charge nurses have a modified patient assignment, typically caring for 2 patients. If staffing allows, travelers may be free charge. Travelers may be asked to fill in the Charge Nurse role and may receive cross-training. House Supervisors are available 24/7. Nurse aides are present on the unit, with ratios of 1 to 10 during the day shift and 1 to 15 during the night shift. Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, and trachs (only on trach collar or room air). RNs perform trach care while respiratory therapists maintain ventilators. Shifts are scheduled from 6:45 am to 7:15 pm or from 6:45 pm to 7:15 am. Scheduling decisions will take requests into consideration, and block scheduling is allowed. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend with a set rotation. Holiday rotation occurs alongside core staff, with considerations based on previous years worked. Travelers may be required to float to Med-Surg units or the emergency department to care for boarded patients. Floating occurs after float pool needs are met. Dress code requires solid color scrubs without embroidery or patterns. RNs and LPNs wear navy scrubs, while CNAs and monitor techs wear dark grey or pewter. Solid undershirts may be worn in matching colors. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory with no crocs allowed. Initial skills checklist must be completed within 90 days from the start date. Charting is done using the EPIC system.
