About the Role:
Nextgen Biologics in Alachua, FL is looking for a passionate and dedicated Animal Care Specialist to join our growing team. Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care, feeding, and husbandry for research animals in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to veterinary or research staff
- Maintain clean, sanitary, and safe animal housing facilities
- Assist research staff with animal handling, sample collection, and study procedures
- Maintain accurate records of animal care activities, treatments, and observations
- Ensure compliance with IACUC, USDA, and AAALAC guidelines and protocols
- Support inventory management of animal care supplies and equipment
Requirements:
- Prior experience in animal care, veterinary technology, or a research animal facility preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory animal husbandry and biosafety procedures
- AALAS certification (ALAT or LAT) is a plus
- Ability to handle, restrain, and care for a variety of animal species safely
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed
- Compassionate, reliable, and team-oriented work ethic
