Overview This position is responsible for enrolling and completing the Level 1 training course provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing. Paragon is a virtual distant‑learning program that guides students through a 15‑week curriculum covering fundamentals of bathing and grooming, basic safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy and physiology. Students complete a mix of hands‑on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and photo submissions for grading. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%) Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, nights, weekends and overtime as required by business needs. Take the initiative to support selling initiatives (TEAM): Thank the customer Engage with the customer and/or pet Advise products or services Make it memorable Groom technicians in training must learn and perform the following duties throughout their training program. Although daily tasks may vary, they should be able to perform all duties accurately, efficiently, and safely: Successfully enroll and complete the Paragon Level 1 training within the required five‑week timeframe. Safe pet handling. Bathing, drying, brushing and combing all coat types. Nail trimming. Ear cleaning. Preparatory hair trimming. Basic clipper techniques. Basic finishing techniques. Customer service skills. Demonstrating professionalism. Equipment handling and maintenance. Ensure safety and well‑being of animals. Inspect animals for parasites, disease or injury and report findings to owners. Practice safety and sanitization protocols. Sanitize and maintain grooming tools and equipment to prevent injury and disease transmission. Assist in generating business by calling customers, scheduling appointments, following up and verifying vaccinations. Maintain client records, including services provided and vaccination records. Operate computer as needed. Recover store, if needed. Sanitize and maintain holding tanks and care for live animals as required. Complete all documentation associated with job duties. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Required Qualifications Experience: Comfortable working with dogs and cats, patient and compassionate toward animals. Provide own tools (clippers, blades, shears) or be willing to purchase required tools. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Strong reading, writing and math skills required. Preferred Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Operate all grooming tools and equipment, including bathing tubs, brushes, combs, scissors, clippers, dryers and bathing products. Communicate effectively with associates and customers. Show compassion toward animals and treat them appropriately. Attention to detail. Basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills; resolve issues ethically with minimal conflict. Working Conditions Indoor environment with moderate noise. Exposure to sharp instruments, perfumed soaps, pets, and pet waste. Exposure to wet conditions when bathing dogs. Exposure to cats and dogs of all sizes and temperaments. Shifts vary; generally no less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours. Promote a safe and productive work environment, following company safety training and guidelines. Indoor floors and outdoor lots are typically concrete or asphalt; lighting and temperature are adequate. Physical Requirements Move and transfer live animals, equipment and merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand and maintain a stationary position for up to 8 hours while grooming animals. Move frequently throughout the salon for 4‑8 hours per day to groom animals, clean and maintain the salon. Use grooming instruments such as shears and dryers. Lift or reach merchandise overhead occasionally. Bend, kneel and squat frequently to groom animals, clean shelves and stock merchandise. Operate store equipment such as computer and cash register continuously. Read, write and count accurately to complete documentation. Maintain strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with team members and customers. Position is non‑sedentary. Operate all equipment safely and accurately, providing high‑level customer service. Move quickly and safely throughout the store and outdoor areas with physical and mental stamina.
