Summary / Objective

Our client is seeking a creative and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join its Metal Design Production and Research & Development team. In this role, you will focus on translating aesthetic concepts into detailed 3D geometry and 2D drawings while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Your designs will play a key role in maintaining the company's distinct aesthetic and quality standards from concept through production.

This position emphasizes creative problem-solving, an eye for design trends, and attention to detail, ensuring a balance between artistry and manufacturability.

Essential Functions

• Create detailed 3D geometry and 2D drawings with a focus on aesthetic integrity and manufacturable design, working from input provided by design and production teams.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design visually compelling and manufacturable products, fixtures, and technical documentation.

• Develop new design concepts, materials, and finishes that align with the client's creative direction and product vision.

• Apply expertise in material properties for precious metals, metals, plastics, and wood, ensuring designs meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.

• Stay current with industry design trends and historical design influences to help shape future product development.

• Work with prototypes, inspecting physical parts against 3D models to ensure visual and dimensional accuracy.

• Utilize digital tools to organize, present, and maintain design data effectively.

• Communicate design concepts visually, verbally, and in writing to support collaboration across departments.

• Experience with rapid prototyping or CNC processes is beneficial but secondary to a strong aesthetic design foundation.

• Leverage knowledge of manufacturing processes, product designs, and materials to support future development projects.

• Ability to articulate and understand complex concepts visually, verbally, and in written form.

• Ability to process information from multiple sources and formats to build complete design packages for manufacturing and supplier collaboration.

• Organize and maintain design documentation and digital files efficiently.

• Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in 3D modeling with a focus on design aesthetics, manufacturability, and collaboration with creative teams.

• Experience with organic modeling tools such as Rhinoceros 3D and ZBrush to create intricate and artistic designs.

• Experience with SolidWorks for tooling and precision design.

• Strong ability to design for aesthetics without compromising manufacturability.

• Familiarity with materials such as precious metals, tool steel, plastics, and wood, including finishes and textures.

• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to translate abstract concepts into refined 3D models.

• Experience creating manufacturing documentation including BOMs, assembly drawings, work instructions, and product sheets.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and managing digital files and design documentation.

• Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with creative and production teams.

• Portfolio showcasing aesthetic-driven 3D modeling projects, with an emphasis on artistic and hard-surface geometry.

Software Requirements

• Rhinoceros 7 (minimum of 2,000 hours of experience).

• ZBrush for organic modeling and intricate design development.

• SolidWorks for detailed product development and engineering support.

• KeyShot for high-quality rendering and visual presentations.

Skill Requirements

• Proficiency in 3D product design and development of aesthetically compelling, manufacturable models.

• Expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.

• Experience with 3D printing for prototyping and design validation.

• Familiarity with 3D scanning tools and processes for model creation and refinement.
