WCC Crew Supervisor 1 - North Puget Sound

Description Positions with an official duty station in King County are eligible for an additional 5% premium pay. With this premium included, the monthly salary range will be $4,325–$5,808. The Department of Ecology is hiring Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) Crew Supervisor 1 positions. This project position is funded until June 30, 2027. The posting will fill vacancies in the North Puget Sound region, which includes King, Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom counties. Only in‐person work; no telework is allowed. The position requires field work 40 hours per week, Monday through Thursday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, with possible alternative 10‑hour days when traveling. The location offers diverse landscapes and opportunities to work on trails, urban green spaces, and restored forests. Crew members will engage with community partners to provide access to natural spaces. Duties Supervise and mentor a crew of five WCC members, leading projects in habitat enhancement, recreational enhancement, and spike (travel) assignments. Support crew career development and ensure safety, inclusion, and well‑being. Recruit, interview, and select new crew members. Assign work tasks and evaluate performance, providing feedback and disciplinary recommendations as needed. Track and complete conservation projects, monitor materials and equipment usage, and communicate progress with sponsors and staff. Complete required paperwork: timesheets, travel logs, credit card logs, safety reports, production reports, hiring and termination forms, and member evaluations. Ensure equipment is used safely and maintained, and drive or maintain state‑owned or leased 4‑wheel‑drive pickup trucks. Handle inclement weather, rough terrain, and long daily walks; lift up to 60 pounds repetitively; potentially work up to 8 days in travel status and up to 30 days in disaster response deployment. Lead crew deployments for local and national disaster response when required. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Three (3) years of experience equivalent to WCC field work, young‑adult mentorship, or leadership (e.g., outdoor leadership, crew lead, coordinating field activities). OR satisfactory completion of a two‑year Forest Technology Vocational Program and one (1) year of field experience as a WCC crew member or in emergency response to natural disasters, hazardous spills, firefighting, and/or habitat restoration. OR an Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, or a closely related field, plus one (1) year of field experience in the same capacity. Qing military experience can substitute year for year for field experience. Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Background check will be conducted before hiring; results may be considered during suitability determination. Desired Qualifications: Experience supervising and training employees, natural resource conservation and maintenance work, and using hand and power tools. Field skill certifications such as Wilderness First Aid, Pesticide Operator License, Wildland Firefighter Red Card, FEMA Disaster Response Training, Intermediate Incident Command System (ICS 300), Introduction to NIMS (IS‑700).
