Assembly Technician / Upfit TechnicianThis role focuses on upfitting, repairing, and customizing aerial, construction, and heavy- and light-duty vehicles to meet customer specifications. You will use your welding, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills to build high-quality products in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment. The position requires passing a MIG weld test, maintaining strong attendance, and collaborating closely with multiple departments to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.ResponsibilitiesCreate and maintain a safe working environment by following established safety procedures and best practices.Build and customize aerial, heavy-duty, and light-duty vehicles using a variety of parts and components to meet customer specifications.Install and connect electrical components and wiring on various vehicles, following diagrams and instructions.Plumb and route hydraulic systems on a wide range of vehicles to ensure proper function and reliability.Read, interpret, and understand repair orders and work instructions to determine required tasks and materials.Accurately allocate and record time spent on each repair order for proper tracking and billing.Produce upfitted vehicles and components that consistently meet established quality standards.Ensure timely turnaround of vehicles by organizing work efficiently and meeting scheduled deadlines.Operate overhead and jib cranes, as well as forklifts, to move parts, assemblies, and vehicles safely.Use power tools, hand tools, and measuring devices such as tape measures to perform precise mechanical assembly.Reference and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to complete assemblies correctly.Communicate effectively across multiple departments to coordinate work, resolve issues, and ensure customer requirements are met.Identify issues or defects during assembly and collaborate with team members to implement appropriate solutions.Document work performed as required for time tracking, quality control, and customer records.Essential SkillsAbility to pass a basic MIG weld test and demonstrate competent welding skills.Previous related experience in welding, mechanical assembly, or vehicle upfitting.Strong mechanical aptitude with experience working with mechanical parts and assemblies.Proficiency in wiring and working with electrical components on vehicles or equipment.Experience with mechanical assembly using power tools, hand tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, repair orders, and work-related documents.Valid driver's license.High school diploma or equivalent.Ownership of a basic set of tools required for daily work.Extremely detail-oriented approach with a high degree of accuracy in all tasks.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks.Capability to set priorities and adapt to changing work demands and schedules.Self-sufficient, driven, and able to work with minimal supervision.Strong attendance record and reliability in meeting work schedules.Ability to meet deadlines and production schedules consistently.Willingness and ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and audiogram.General mechanical aptitude with experience working with parts and components.Proficiency with basic computer software, including MS Office Suite and internet-based systems, for time tracking.Understanding of customer service principles, including needs assessment, quality standards, and customer satisfaction.Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in daily work.Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and professional attitude.Active listening skills and the ability to communicate appropriately with team members and other departments.Ability to convey information effectively, both verbally and in writing.Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills to address issues that arise during assembly and upfitting.Ability to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes.Capability to identify complex problems and implement practical solutions.Ability to see at close range (with or without correction) to perform detailed work.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of hydraulics and hydraulic systems used in vehicles and equipment.Experience with heavy equipment, diesel trucks, and/or farm equipment.Familiarity with aerial equipment and construction-related vehicles.Understanding of electronics and electronic components used in vehicle systems.Experience operating overhead cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts in a shop environment.Comfort using a variety of power tools and shop equipment safely and effectively.Ability to evaluate work processes and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.Strong written communication skills for documenting work and communicating with colleagues.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.Why Work Here?You will join a team-focused environment that values collaboration, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement. Standard hours are on the first shift, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering predictable daytime scheduling. You will work in a shop environment that involves the use of overhead cranes, jib cranes, forklifts, power tools, and standard mechanical and electrical tools. The work involves hands-on assembly, welding, wiring, and hydraulic plumbing on aerial, construction, and heavy- and light-duty vehicles. The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and teamwork.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Casa Grande, AZ.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
