Instructional Aide

Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom activities.

Qualifications/Education

1. High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
2. Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning (2 years defined as completion of 48 semester hours)
3. Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
4. Some experience working with children

• Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to demonstrate tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors to the school.
• Ability to provide virtual/distance learning to students via Google Classroom and other multimedia options in response to pandemics, natural disasters, catastrophic events, etc.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Support

1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher, work with individual students or small groups.
2. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, instructional packets, attendance, and instructional videos, etc.
3. Assist teacher(s) in implementing lessons and activities through virtual/distance learning via Google Classroom and other multimedia options when necessary.
4. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
5. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
6. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
7. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
8. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
9. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and/or instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
10. Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.

Student Management

1. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
2. Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
3. Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.

Other

1. Maintain confidentiality.
2. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
3. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
4. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Computer, telephone, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, standard instructional equipment, and peripherals.

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to moderate standing, sitting; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting, and frequent walking. Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment. Employee may work inside and may work outside and may be subject to extreme weather. Regular exposure to noise. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress; and work with frequent interruptions may work prolonged or irregular hours. Employee maybe subject to biological hazards.

In accordance with TEA regulations, STET/HMPS will provide virtual/distance learning when it is necessary. This platform will be conducted either from a classroom or a location other than the school building, as approved by the Superintendent. Employee will be subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook.
