Biologist 1

We are seeking a motivated Biologist 1 to support laboratory and field-based biological research under the guidance of experienced scientists. This entry-level role is suited to a detail-oriented professional who is eager to develop practical skills in sample handling, experimental procedures, data collection, and scientific documentation. The successful candidate will contribute to projects involving biological specimens, environmental or clinical samples, and routine laboratory investigations, depending on project needs.


Key responsibilities include preparing materials, reagents, and equipment; collecting, labelling, processing, and storing samples in accordance with established procedures; conducting basic biological assays and observations; maintaining accurate laboratory records; entering and reviewing data; and assisting with the preparation of reports, summaries, and presentations. You will help monitor equipment, maintain a clean and safe work environment, follow quality-control requirements, and comply with applicable health, safety, ethical, and waste-disposal standards. The role may also involve supporting field activities, coordinating sample logistics, and collaborating with colleagues from related scientific disciplines.


Applicants should have a degree or diploma in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, ecology, or a closely related discipline, together with foundational knowledge of biological principles and laboratory practices. Practical experience gained through coursework, internships, research projects, or employment will be an advantage. Strong attention to detail, good organisational and communication skills, and the ability to follow written protocols are essential. You should be comfortable working independently while also contributing effectively to a team, managing routine tasks, and meeting deadlines. Familiarity with spreadsheets, laboratory information systems, microscopy, aseptic technique, or basic statistical analysis is desirable. Training and supervision will be provided to support your continued professional development.
