Position Overview

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver exceptional direct and indirect patient-centered care. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. Effective communication regarding the patient’s clinical status is essential, as is the ability to respond promptly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will also demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

• Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written, along with basic computer proficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for surgical patients based on assessment data.
• Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use based on patient age and clinical condition.
• Ensure patient safety and positive outcomes by following established policies for patient identification and surgical procedures.
• Document nursing processes and responses to care promptly using the appropriate tools.
• Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively under pressure.
• Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment for prioritization and delegation of tasks.
• Practice autonomously in alignment with evidence-based standards, while pursuing personal and professional development.
• Serve as a role model and mentor within the profession.
• Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
• Deliver accurate reports on patient conditions for safe care transitions, preparing surgical rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
• Maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, addressing any breaches and assisting in corrective measures.
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding all instruments and supplies, documenting counts accurately.
• Handle, label, and process specimens correctly while demonstrating proficiency in the scrub role.

Qualifications

• Education/Certification: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut. Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.
• Experience: Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is essential.
