Summary

You will serve as a INSTRUMENT MECHANIC in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT ELECTRICAL SHOP of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

• You will receive assignments from the supervisor concerning the priority of systems or devices to be repaired.
• You will comply with all environmental security safety and administrative requirements.
• You will conduct bench tests; adjusting and calibrating instruments.
• You will disassemble instruments/components; inspecting for worn or damaged parts.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience not necessarily the length of time.

- Tests and troubleshoots to analyze repair and maintain physical/dimensional/ optical/electromechanical instrument systems.
- Repairs overhauls and calibrates unusually complex instruments and equipment.
- Uses a variety of trade tools measurement devices and test equipment to adapt them to special applications.
- Traces and corrects malfunctions in unusually complex equipment.
- Read and interpret complex multiview drawing sketches wiring diagrams and other technical materials.
