Recovery Support Specialist
The Recovery Support Specialist provides mobile, person-centered, and recovery-oriented psychosocial rehabilitation services to adults enrolled in the CORE program.
Services are delivered primarily in community-based settings and focus on addressing psychosocial barriers that impact daily living, housing, employment, education, relationships, and overall community integration.
Services are individualized and focus on skill development, problem-solving, self-advocacy, and removing barriers that may interfere with recovery and community integration.
The Recovery Support Specialist collaborates with individuals, natural supports, and service providers to promote successful goal achievement while maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to program, agency, and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing individualized, recovery-oriented support services in community, home, office, and virtual settings.
- Partnering with individuals to identify personal goals and develop plans to achieve greater independence and community participation.
- Teaching and reinforcing skills related to daily living, communication, problem-solving, organization, self-advocacy, and wellness management.
- Supporting individuals in developing and maintaining meaningful social, recreational, educational, vocational, and community connections.
- Assisting individuals in accessing and navigating community resources, public benefits, transportation, healthcare, housing, employment, educational, and other support services.
- Helping individuals identify strengths, overcome barriers, and develop strategies to achieve personal recovery goals.
- Providing psychoeducation related to mental health, substance use, wellness, stress management, coping skills, and recovery.
- Supporting individuals in developing crisis prevention strategies and recognizing early warning signs that may impact goal attainment.
- Assisting individuals with building independent living skills, including budgeting, time management, household management, technology use, and community navigation.
- Collaborating with family members, natural supports, healthcare providers, care managers, and other service providers, as appropriate and authorized.
- Conducting outreach and engagement activities to maintain participation in services and support continuity of care.
- Maintaining timely, accurate, and person-centered documentation, including assessments, service plans, progress notes, and other required records.
- Participating in supervision, staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement activities.
- Adhering to agency policies, program requirements, Medicaid documentation standards, and all applicable confidentiality regulations.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
The position is based out of an office in New Windsor, with primary responsibilities involving travel throughout Orange County with most clients located in Newburgh, Middletown, and Port Jervis. Agency vehicles and mileage reimbursement are available.
Required qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, or related field
- Minimum of two years' experience providing services to individuals with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder
Preferred qualifications include:
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approaches
- Experience providing employment support, education support or vocational assistance
- Experience using motivational interviewing and trauma informed practices.
- Experience navigating an Electronic Health Record.
- Bilingual Spanish / English highly preferred.

Terms of employment/benefits include:
Pay Rate: $24/hour, with a $1/hour add-on for bilingual capabilities
Employment Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM with flexibility to work a later shift one day a week
Benefits: Paid holidays, vacation, personal, wellness, and sick leave according to MHA policy. Training and educational opportunities available.
