Principal Automation Software Test Engineer: SDET

Medtronic

Principal-level automation engineer needed to lead test automation efforts for complex surgical medical device software systems. This role combines hands-on automation development with technical mentorship, requiring expertise in regulated product environments and test strategy design.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor software and test engineers; orchestrate team activities and review deliverables
Design test strategies, develop automated testing components, and maintain test tools and frameworks
Participate in all product development phases including requirements review, design evaluation, and risk assessment
Identify process improvements for software testing and maintain compliance with quality system standards
Communicate test findings and defect analysis to project teams and stakeholders

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering discipline
7+ years software quality assurance, test automation, or test lead experience
5+ years medical device or regulated industry experience
Test automation expertise across GUI, backend integration, reliability, and performance testing
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, bash, JavaScript, or Perl
Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities with project management skills
Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations and IEC 62304 compliance
