Seasonal Bus Driver

Department: Parks & Recreation Division: Recreation

Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Position Classifications: The position of Bus Driver in the City of Stow is classified by the Stow Municipal Civil Service Commission, is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not included in a collective bargaining agreement.

Purpose: Perform as a seasonal driver for a variety of City of Stow Departmental programs including, but not limited to, Community Trips and Stow Day Camp.

Essential Functions

1. Safely operates the City of Stow bus and other City vehicles as assigned.
2. Performs a safety inspection of the bus prior to and after each use including but not limited to: Sufficient fuel and fluid levels; Brakes, tire pressure, wheel lugs, turn signals, wipers, heating/cooling systems, belts, handicap lift, speakers, lights, back-up indicators.
3. Understands and is able to properly operate special features of the bus including but not limited to, speakers, handicap lift, heating and cooling systems.
4. Promptly reports maintenance problems or concerns.
5. Obtains City-issued cellphone or provides personal phone number in order to communicate with City staff during trips.
6. Maintains cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the bus prior to and after each use.
7. Documents accurate records of bus usage as instructed.
8. Maintains the use of vehicle keys and any other Department-issued property.
9. Assists elderly and/or disabled riders entering and exiting the bus.
10. Maintains the safety of passengers within the bus during scheduled trips.
11. Assists the Trip Leader(s) as needed in escorting the various trips.
12. Assists the Trip Leader(s) with directions/travel routes to selected venues.
13. Assists the Trip Leader(s) with special needs or emergencies as needed.
14. Promptly completes and submits Accident/Injury/Incident reports.
15. Promptly reports any unusual trip occurrences or problems.
16. Regular, reliable, predictable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
17. Compliance with all City of Stow city-wide and departmental policies, work rules and procedures.
18. Perform other duties related to those of the position and/or resulting from the needs of the organization.

Qualifications

1. Must possess a minimum of one (1) year of related experience; additional years preferred.
2. Must have skill in operating the listed tools and equipment.
3. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with City employees and officials and the general public.
4. Must possess and continuously maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver's License, with a CDL endorsement B, throughout the term of employment.

Tools and equipment used in the performance of this position include, but are not limited to: Passenger Bus, City Vehicles, Vacuums, Handicap Lift, Speakers, Cell Phone.

The employee occasionally moves and/or lifts up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
