Job Description
This role focuses on assembling subcomponents and finished products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work with sheet metal plates, hand and power tools, and an overhead crane to build heat exchangers and related units. The position requires close collaboration with a partner at the assembly table, attention to detail when following assembly drawings and schematics, and the physical ability to lift and move heavy materials throughout the shift.
Responsibilities

• Gasket sheet metal plates using a tape gun to hold units together while working with a partner on the opposite end of the table.
• Build up to gasketting approximately 400 plates per shift in a fast-paced production environment.
• Assemble subcomponents and finished products, following established processes and basic product knowledge.
• Fit and assemble metal products using hand tools and power tools to ensure proper alignment and secure construction.
• Operate various hand and power tools to build heat exchangers and related units.
• Review and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints to determine required parts, quantities, and proper placement.
• Use a tape measure and other basic measurement tools to verify dimensions and ensure accurate assembly.
• Operate an overhead crane to safely move larger units and components around the manufacturing floor.
• Work closely with one team member to fulfill daily product orders and meet production targets.
• Lift materials weighing 50-60 lbs or more to fit products together, including lifting 40 lbs independently.
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and extending arms for extended periods of time.
• Use hands frequently to operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment required for assembly and material processing.
• Follow 5S and safety practices to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Essential Skills

• Experience with assembly work in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for metal assembly.
• Comfort operating an overhead crane or willingness to learn overhead crane operation with proper training.
• Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
• Proficiency using a tape measure and basic mechanical measurement tools.
• Mechanical aptitude and understanding of basic assembly and fabrication processes.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs or more and independently lift at least 40 lbs on a regular basis.
• Capability to perform physical work including lifting, climbing, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and extending arms for extended periods.
• High school diploma or GED, or willingness to obtain one within the required timeframe once converted to a permanent role.

• Interest in being trained and developed into a unit builder with broader assembly responsibilities.
• Willingness to participate in a structured two-week training program with a dedicated trainer.
• Commitment to following 5S principles and maintaining a neat, clean, and organized work area.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a partner and broader team to meet daily production goals.
• Flexibility to work extended hours, including potential overtime to 4:30 PM and occasional Saturday shifts as needed.
• Willingness to pursue a company-supported GED program if a diploma or GED is not yet obtained.

Work Environment
This position is based on a large, clean, and organized manufacturing floor where all sections are clearly labeled according to materials and production processes. The facility is climate-controlled and operates with strong 5S discipline, keeping the environment neat and efficient. The primary schedule for this role is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with the possibility of working until 4:30 PM when needed. A second shift also operates from 2:15 PM to 10:45 PM Monday through Friday, with potential Saturday hours from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, providing opportunities for overtime. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, and an overhead crane, and the work involves frequent lifting, climbing, standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and extended arm movements throughout the shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
