Staff Dentist - Rural Community Health Center, Fortuna -CA RESIDENTS

Founded in the late 1970s, Redwoods Rural Health Center (RRHC), a vital community health practice, serves the whole community, with a focus on low-income and disadvantaged populations, in providing medical, dental, behavioral and perinatal care to a small, diverse, rural community, regardless of its patients’ ability to pay. The region provides easy access to local rivers, forested mountains, pristine beaches, Napa wineries, the Bay Area and boasts mild winters for year-round outdoor activities, including fishing, rafting, hiking, camping, surfing and biking. 

Job Summary:  

Reporting to the Dental Director and ultimately to the Executive Director, the Staff Dentist is responsible for providing clinical dental services and preventive dental care in accordance with established procedures and protocols. 

Duties / Responsibilities:  

Examine, diagnose and treat dental/oral conditions; prescribe and carry out, or direct others to carry out, appropriate dental/oral treatment, and/or refer individuals for specialty consultation and treatment;

Perform fillings, extractions, adult prophy, provide scaling and root planing for all patient ages;

Perform and oversee denture procedures, recall exams, child prophy, night guards and occlusal adjustment (bite adjustments);

Accurately record patient-dentist transactions in patient dental record;

Accurately code all services for legal, clinical and payor compliance;

Ensure delivery of programs and services, as required by HRSA grant, payors, regulatory agencies and policies and procedures.

Accept and treat patients of all backgrounds and ages.

Responsible for identification and referral of high-risk patients.

Responsible for assuring that laboratory services are performed by properly trained staff.

Complete training and maintain proficiency in core functions of electronic health records system.

Attend regular chart and case review sessions with all concerned clinic staff.

Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities, including peer review, department and staff training and special projects and activities, as needed.

Assist with continual development and implementation of dental policies;

Adhere to ethical standards of care, safety and conduct rules, other regulations and the policies and procedures of RRHC, always;

Attend staff meetings, training, workshops and conferences, as needed and directed by the Dental Director;

Participate in off-site meetings and community events, as necessary;

Travel training, continuing education, meetings or community events, as required and approved by Dental Director;

Serve as a consultant to the Medical and Behavioral Health Divisions of RRHC;

Perform other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives. 

Education & Accreditation Requirements:

DDS and/or DDM Degree from a U.S. accredited dental school;

Completion of an accredited dental general practice residency program preferred;

Knowledge of public health principles and practices, preferred. 

Licensure & Credentialing:

Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of California;

Unrestricted DEA license;

Current CPR (BLS) certifications; ACLS, preferred. 

Qualifications:

At least 2 – 5+ years of proven experience in a dental general practice community health, or private practice;

Knowledge of principles and practice of modern dentistry; public or community health experience, preferred;

Adhere to state and local health and safety regulations and in accordance with RRHC’s practices and policies;

Maintain a continual clean and organized work area, maintenance and proper use of dental equipment and tools;

Demonstrated skills in culturally sensitive human interactions;

Astute oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;

Spanish speaker, a plus;

Exceptional time management, organizational, accuracy, multi-tasking, attention to detail, problem-solving and follow-through skills;

Ability to work effectively alone and within a collaborative team environment;

Valid CA driver’s license, clean and insurable driving record and reliable transportation to work.

Compensation:

$162,094 - $210,400 annual base salary, DOE, for this full-time, exempt position. 

Benefits:

403(b) retirement plan with an annual 4% company match, which vests 100% on start date;

12 days of annual paid vacation time during years 0 – 3, accrued at 0.04615 per hour and increasing incrementally thereafter;

50 hours of annual paid sick time allotted on start date and annually on the anniversary date;

8 annual paid holidays;

Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with the organization paying a generous portion of employee and dependent premiums; eligibility to enroll following 60 days of employment.

Continuing education paid leave, reimbursement and licensing reimbursement available;

Working Hours:

40 hours per week regular schedule, which may be changes as needs arise.
