Meteorologist/ Reporter

Job Description

WWMT/ARC West Michigan is looking for a Meteorologist/Reporter to present the weather forecast for the weekend news and produce impactful weather-related/environmental stories 3 days a week. You'll be responsible for delivering accurate, compelling forecasts while helping our content center own severe weather coverage. We want someone with a strong on-air delivery and digital-first mindset who can produce content on multiple platforms.

Responsibilities of the role will include...
  • Forecasting, producing and presenting clear and concise weathercasts, which tell a story and connect with viewers
  • Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
  • Deliver calm, confident coverage during severe weather and other high-impact weather events.
  • Create original weather-related content for digital, social platforms
  • Write and update forecasts for our multiple platforms.
  • Pitch weather-related, environmental stories and develop contacts
  • Ability to shoot, write and edit as needed.
  • Make public appearances on behalf of the station
  • Fill-in on weekday newscasts and other shifts as needed.
What skills do you need to be successful in our role?
  • Have strong forecasting skills and weather judgment
  • Produce weather segments that provide context and are easy to understand
  • Must have experience with live severe weather coverage on multiple platforms
  • Ability to tell memorable and meaningful stories; we value visual and compelling storytelling on air and online
  • Ability to handle active and visual live shots
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology
  • 2 years' experience in weather presentation and reporting preferred
