River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States.The River Valley family of companies: River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods, and Empire Valley distribute a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products from warehouses in Syracuse, NY.

River Valley is looking for a full time Grocery Route Sales/Merchandiser to work in the Ithaca/Johnson City/Elmira/Corning, NY areas .

This role is integral to driving business growth and supports our commitment to building lasting and productive customer relationships through our full-service program. Previous grocery/retail sales or grocery merchandising experience is preferred. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting Sales Reps with stocking/writing orders, covering vacations and off time, restocking store shelves and displays, building product displays, product rotation, shelf maintenance, store resets and POG implementation. This position interacts with store personnel and requires constant bending, lifting, and carrying product weighing up to 35lbs. The ability to climb ladders, use of step stools to merchandise product and access back stock areas is also required. Applicants should be detailed oriented and have strong communication skills. All applicants must have reliable transportation to travel daily between store locations. Priority will be given to candidates with strong customer service skills and or retail sales experience. 5 day work week that includes Sat (Sunday /Wednesday off). This is a full time salaried position with a travel/fuel allowance. 

Schedule:

• 5 days a week, includes Saturday (Sunday & Wednesday off)

Salary:

• $34,000 - $39,000 per year depending on experience

Essential Functions:

• Consistently deliver exceptional customer service and build productive customer relationships.
• Stock product, arrange product on shelves, and rotate product to ensure freshness.
• Build displays, implement planograms, and reset sections to add items or optimize shelf placement.
• Cleaning and dusting of product and shelving.
• Order product to maintain inventory levels, as needed.
• Perform additional job duties as required.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a High School diploma or equivalent
• At least one year of experience in a merchandising or customer service role; grocery experience preferred
• Must have a valid state issued driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
• Daily travel required, must be available for occasional, position dependent overnight travel
• Reimbursement for travel
• Available to work weekends and/or a variable schedule as required
• Able to routinely lift 35 pounds with occasional up to 50
• Able to stand, walk, lift and bend to service lower shelves for extended periods of time
• Ability to effectively communicate and present information
• Strong organizational skills and a fundamental understanding of sales processes
• Ability to adapt and demonstrate flexibility in managing numerous, competing priorities
• Proven critical thinking skills and a proactive approach to problem solving
• Strong computer skills – Email/Outlook, Electronic Ordering/PDA, Word, Excel
