We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Mechanic II Ordnance CDI Team Lead to support organizational-level (O-Level) maintenance operations for the F/A-18 variants assigned to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) Fort Worth, Texas.
In this dual-capacity role, you will act as the shift Team Lead and the qualified Ordnance Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI). You will be directly responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, modification, and operational testing of complex aircraft ordnance and armament subsystems. You will ensure that all weapons loading, release, and armament maintenance workflows conform strictly to NAVAIR technical publications, Quality Assurance standards, and explosive safety requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Perform, supervise, and operationally test aircraft armament and weapon release systems, bomb racks, ejector racks, missile launchers, launch rails, and M61A1 gun systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic malfunctions within the weapons control systems by interpreting blueprints, schematics, and Naval Technical Manuals.
- Safely execute explosive handling operations, including loading, unloading, arming, and de-arming aviation ordnance according to explicit Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) instructions.
CDI Quality Assurance & Safety Oversight:
- Serve as the designated Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for the ordnance shop, inspecting and certifying the work performed by lower-level Aircraft Mechanics (Levels I and II).
- Verify that all maintenance documentation, logbook entries, and inventory tracking are flawlessly recorded within military data tracking systems (NALCOMIS/OOMA).
- Enforce strict compliance with the Explosive Handling Qualification and Certification Program and instantly halt any operations showing safety deviations.
Team Leadership & Workload Prioritization:
- Prioritize shift workloads, delegate assignments, and lead ordnance maintenance teams through complex, fast-paced technical operations.
- Provide on-the-job training, technical mentorship, and safety guidance to junior ordnance team members.
- Coordinate directly with Production Control, Maintenance Control, and Quality Assurance departments regarding aircraft availability and weapon system serviceability statuses.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of aircraft maintenance experience, with a heavy emphasis on supporting F/A-18 aircraft ordnance and armament operations.
- Current or previous qualification as an Ordnance Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) with the ability to obtain full re-certification immediately.
- Proficient understanding of NAMP protocols (COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series), NAVAIR technical publications, and military explosive safety regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of unique aviation tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, and specialized electronic/weapons circuitry analyzers.
- Must possess and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance to access the flight line and classified military networks.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver components or ordnance support equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Physical capability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in tight overhead positions or confined spaces inside tactical aircraft for extended durations.
- Comfort climbing ladders, aircraft stands, and elevated maintenance platforms.
