Job Title: Clinical Technician, Dialysis Profession: Clinical Technician Specialty: Dialysis Duration: 12 Weeks Shift: Schedule: 4/10's - 4am-2:30pm or 9am-7:30pm (Monday - Saturday with a rotation of Saturdays) Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Dialysis clinical technician certification required Certifications: BLS and CCHT Must-Have: Previous dialysis experience preferred. Responsibilities Under supervision of nursing staff, responsible for the monitoring and direct care of patients on hemodialysis. Monitors patients on an ongoing basis and communicates information to appropriate team members. Works as part of an interdisciplinary team caring for the dialysis patient. Responds in emergency situations. Reinforces education to patients. Documents patient care and observations (e.g., flow sheets, incident reports). Follows operational activities specific to assigned unit. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity. Reports to work in designated attire consistent with hygiene standards. Communicates with other departments or service organizations. Demonstrates ability to plan work activities. Carries out doctors' orders within parameters of role. Follows infection control policies and procedures. Responsible for helping to minimize waste in assigned unit. Monitors and adjusts dialysis therapy within scope of practice to meet patient needs. Serves as a resource referral for the patient. Demonstrates problem-solving methodologies for the benefit of the patients and care area. Maintains a neat and safe work area. Demonstrates technical and task-oriented skills (e.g., cannulation, machine set-ups, disinfection). Administers normal saline solution via the extracorporeal system under supervision. Administers xylocaine as ordered by the physician. Administers anticoagulant heparin or saline under nursing supervision. Instills anticoagulant as ordered at discontinuation of dialysis treatment. Performs blood drawing procedures. May be required to take on-call in acute settings. Demonstrates core customer service responsibilities and standards.
