As a Mechanical Project Engineer (PE), you will lead the design and execution of HVAC and building systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial and mixed-use developments. You'll collaborate directly with project managers and clients, mentor junior designers, and play a key role in delivering projects that move quickly without sacrificing quality.Core ResponsibilitiesLead HVAC and mechanical system design from concept through construction, including equipment selection, layouts, and system sizingPerform and oversee engineering calculations to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and project requirementsReview and approve construction documents for accuracy, completeness, and constructabilityCoordinate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing (MEP), structural, and architectural teams to deliver integrated systemsConduct design reviews to resolve conflicts related to function, clearances, and installation feasibilitySupport project planning, including scope development, scheduling, and design budget coordinationProvide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers to maintain quality and efficiencyInterface directly with clients to communicate design intent, requirements, and solutionsParticipate in QA/QC processes and collaborate with technical leadership to maintain engineering standardsSupport construction-phase activities, including RFIs, submittals, and field coordinationRequired QualificationsEducation: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical EngineeringLicensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) requiredExperience: 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience within building systems designTechnical Expertise: Strong background in HVAC system design, load calculations, and equipment selectionDeep understanding of applicable building codes, standards, and multidisciplinary coordinationSoftware: Proficiency in Revit, mechanical modeling tools, and Microsoft Office SuiteCommunication: Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearlyLeadership: Proven ability to manage priorities, guide teams, and meet deadlines in fast-paced environmentsPreferred QualificationsExperience across retail, grocery, multifamily, industrial, or mixed-use developmentsDemonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineering staffExperience managing project scope, schedules, and design budgetsStrong background in construction administration and field coordinationAbout Cuhaci PetersonCuhaci Peterson is a nationally recognized engineering firm specializing in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Structural services.
