General Overview:

The Hematologist-Oncologist plays a crucial role in delivering care and medical supervision for patients dealing with malignant diseases and hematologic disorders. This professional utilizes strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with other medical personnel, ensuring high-quality services are rendered while representing our Oncology Service Line to both medical staff and the community. The Hematologist-Oncologist provides oncology services in accordance with established guidelines and in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver oncology services based on evidence-based guidelines promptly, ensuring all documentation aligns with organizational policies.

• Engage with newly diagnosed cancer patients or those with benign hematology conditions to discuss treatment options. Educate patients and their families about the disease, diagnostic procedures, tests, labs, and treatment goals. Set realistic objectives and potential outcomes for patients, while communicating the treatment plan with team members (including Nurse Practitioners, RN Chemotherapy, and RN Navigators) and overseeing the execution of the treatment plan.

• Work alongside a multidisciplinary team (including surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology) to develop patient care plans. Advocate for best practices and guidelines-driven care during multidisciplinary conferences, and communicate the care plan to relevant team members (e.g., Primary Care).

• Gather pertinent patient healthcare data and analyze it to assess patient needs. Follow organizational policies for documentation, diagnosis coding, and accurate charge capture.

• Engage in the Clinical Research Program to suggest potential clinical studies for patient enrollment on-site or refer to appropriate tertiary facilities.

• Coordinate with Oncology Administration to enhance departmental workflows and actively contribute to the development of the Oncology Service Line strategic plan, promoting its vision and goals within the community.

• Perform any additional duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

Required Education, Credentials, and Experience:

• Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Completion of a recognized internal medicine residency and a hematology-oncology fellowship is required.

• Credentials: Must possess a Physician MD or DO license, Controlled Substance Registration, and be eligible for active membership in our medical staff.

• Experience:

Required: No prior experience is necessary; candidates should be board eligible in hematology and oncology.

Preferred: Board certification in hematology and oncology is desirable.
