Job Duties / Responsibilities Plans a program of study that follows district guidelines for multiple grade levels and, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. Implements researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds. Creates an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback. Implements current district science curriculum for stude nts in a self contained setting that is grade level appropriate with appropriate modifications and accommoda tions per the IEP. Implements program curriculum for students in a self contained setting. Plans for and guides the learning process toward the mastery of science curriculum goals, and establishes clear learning targets and success criteria for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students. Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration. Collaborates with the Office of K-12 Science & Planetarium , Student Wellness and Specialized Student Services departments on a regular basis for support in implementing the intended curriculum and specialized support. Implements formative and summative assessments of student progress to drive instruction and communicates progress to students and parents. Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work collaboratively and to their highest potential. Works cooperatively with building principal, special education administrator, and/or content coordinators in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies. Participates in professional learning in the areas of science and program curriculum with embedded teaching strategies to meet the needs of special education students. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and Board policy. Implements student and classroom behavior management supports/plans and assists in implementing student discipline policies. Provide administration directed special education instructional support or intervention if content specific minutes do not meet the specials instructional minutes target. May provide direct cross categorical resource service minutes. May have case management responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Bachelor's degree in related subject from accredited university ( Preferred ) Appropriate Illinois teaching certificate (Required) LBS1 Certification (Required) Experience / Knowledge Knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards (CCSS 2014). Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards. Knowledge of Phenomena driven, Inquiry instructional strategies is preferred. Knowledge of and ability to implement specialized instruction. Teaching experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring. Physical Demands Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Must be able to commute between several different locations throughout the district. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry , pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching. Terms of Employment This is a 10-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
