The University of Miami/UHealth Dermatology Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant to work in Miami, FL. The Certified Nursing Assistant performs various direct patient care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse. More specifically, the incumbent assists patients in dressing or undressing, bathing, and eating, and collects noninvasive body fluid specimens or gathers vital signs. Additionally, this employee aids physicians and nursing staff members with procedures and documents patient interactions.CORE JOB FUNCTIONSProvides for patients’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves, and assisting with showers.Assists with meals and feeds patients, ambulates, turns, and positions patients, and provides fresh water and nourishment between meals.Administers enemas, douches, non-sterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, therapeutic and sitz baths, and applies restraints.Performs sugar and acetone urine testing, specimen collection, and post-mortem care.Answers patients’ call lights and requests promptly.Maintains a safe and attractive environment for patients and staff and transports patients and equipment.Reports patient conditions to the assigned nurse to ensure professional assessment.Measures and records food and liquid intake and output, and checks and records vital signs.Provides patient help with walking, exercising, and moving in and out of bed.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Department Specific FunctionsResponsible for the sterilization and maintenance of instruments and equipment.Maintain updated knowledge of sterile techniques and maintain a sterile environment during procedures.Provide additional support for triage unit and assist with incoming calls as needed.Administers non-sterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths, and applies restraints.Ensure rooms are appropriately equipped and ready to useStock each clinic room on a regular basis throughout the day, and rotate inventory, assure all stock is within expiration limits.Assist with inventory counts and controls as directed by nursing supervisors.Assist with medical records, paperwork, etc.Document any/all communication with the patient within the medical record, office visits, telephone conversations, messages, etc.Consistently maintain complete confidentiality regarding patient care as per HIPAA requirementsConduct daily activities, communications, and interactions in a positive and professional mannerIdentify and report potential and active environmental safety hazardsImplement clinical and technical aspects of patient care with proper technique, procedure and safety precautionsInstrument reprocessing: Cleaning, inspecting, packaging, and sterilizing reusable instruments between procedures.Exam and procedure room turnover: Disinfecting exam tables, countertops, chairs, and other patient-contact surfaces.Overhead surgical lights: Cleaning and disinfecting light handles, overhead lights, and frequently touched equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions.Infection control compliance: Following approved disinfectant contact times, maintaining clean and dirty workflow separation, and completing required sterilization documentation.Clinical readiness: Ensuring rooms are appropriately cleaned, stocked, and ready for the next patient.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.CORE QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalentMinimum 1 year of relevant experienceSkill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.Commitment to the University’s core values.Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.The University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.UHealth-University of Miami Health System, South Florida's only university-based health system, provides leading-edge patient care powered by the ground breaking research and medical education at the Miller School of Medicine.
