Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring telemetry strip interpretation, arterial line competency, and drip titration skills in an acute care, Level II Trauma setting.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) with 40 beds and an average daily census of 24
• Patient population includes adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both days and nights; nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:12 ratio
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
• RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry monitor strips
• High-flow oxygen equipment is used on the unit; RNs are expected to manage and troubleshoot
• Competency in arterial lines is required
• Charge nurse present on each shift and carries a patient assignment
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
• Every other weekend required
• Minimum of 2 holidays that fall within the contract period are required
• Floating required to MedSurg or to ICU to cover PCU-acuity patients
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Competency with arterial lines required
• Experience reading and interpreting cardiac telemetry strips required
• Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility — a valid driver's license is required for consideration and used to verify permanent address
• Candidates may not be currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

• Unit serves a diverse patient population, primarily Hispanic and Somali communities — cultural competency and strong communication skills are valued
• RNs are expected to be team players who are flexible, adaptable, and receptive to feedback
• Unit emphasizes patient experience scores, responsiveness, communication about medications, and overall hospital environment
• Available equipment includes overhead lifts (in half the rooms), portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 day; an open-book pass/fail skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
• If placed on call and called back in, the RN must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes
• Up to 7 days of RTO must be requested upfront at the start of the contract; additional RTO will not be approved
• Blocked scheduling is not approved unless it is weekends only; candidates requiring shared scheduling arrangements will not be considered
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to comply will result to contract termination
• BSN is not required for this position
