About KPTV KPTV is a Fox-affiliated television station licensed to Portland, Oregon. Owned by Atlanta-based Gray Television, it is part of a duopoly with Vancouver, Washington-licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate KPDX and home to Rose City Sportsnet. Job Summary The KPTV Engineering Manager will report to the Director of Engineering and work closely with the IT Manager to supervise, train, and lead KPTV engineers to maintain, design, and build studio and transmission facilities for KPTV and Rose City Sports Net. This position requires full knowledge of station broadcast operations and technical layout, with a strong emphasis on VHF and UHF transmitter systems, networked and terrestrial video transmission systems, and design and maintenance of field installations and equipment to support the above. Duties / Responsibilities Oversee maintenance of the technical facility, including studio support, post editing systems, and field equipment. Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of broadcast transmission systems, including RF, microwave, and satellite. Supervise, train, and manage the schedule of staff engineers. Oversee maintenance of VHF and UHF transmission equipment throughout DMA. Support live news production workflows, including studio cameras, audio systems, and graphics platforms. Coordinate with the Chief Engineer on capital projects, equipment upgrades, and facility improvements. Ensure compliance with FCC technical regulations and maintain all required station logs and records. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a fast-paced, deadline-driven broadcast environment. Provide on-call support for breaking news and live event coverage. Assist the IT Manager in maintaining the station's network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN architecture, routers, switches, and firewalls. Assist the IT Manager in enforcing IT security and cybersecurity protocols to protect station assets, data, and on-air systems. Maintain documentation, including diagrams, system configurations, and disaster recovery procedures. Qualifications / Requirements Must have a background with previous work experience in TV Broadcast Engineering. Knowledge of broadcast equipment and technology, including RF, microwave, and transmission systems. Experience with broadcast automation systems, master control, and news production workflows. 2 or more years of experience in broadcast engineering required; 3+ years preferred. Demonstrated experience managing LAN/WAN network infrastructure, including configuration of switches. Solid understanding of IT security best practices, including endpoint protection and incident response. Experience supporting a help desk function. Proficiency with Windows Server environments and Active Directory. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical staff. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a live broadcast environment. Must be available for on-call support, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Requires a valid driver's license and clean driving record (MVR). Performs other duties as assigned.
