TOPS K-8 - Elementary School Assistant (203/8) - 1.0 FTE

Job Overview Elementary School Assistant provides clerical support, maintains attendance records, communicates truancy records, and serves as a contact for public inquiries. Responsibilities Answers incoming telephone calls for screening, transferring, responding to inquiries and/or taking messages. Assists the lead secretary in initiating financial transactions and reports for meeting school needs. Communicates with students, teachers, parents, District employees, etc. to resolve problems and coordinate activities. Maintains a variety of manual and electronic reports, documents and confidential files conveying information regarding school and/or District activities and procedures. Supervises students in a variety of settings to ensure a safe school environment. Notifies parents and/or guardians of student absences to resolve truancy issues and meet regulatory requirements. Responds to inquiries from staff, parents, other schools, and/or students with information and directions as required. May conduct background checks on volunteers. Other Functions Administers medication and/or minor first aid to students as needed. Participates in meetings, trainings, workshops, seminars, conferences to convey information required to perform functions. Performs related duties consistent with the scope of the position. Reporting Relationships Reports to Principal as assigned school. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge Basic math including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, present information to others, understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Age-appropriate activities; business telephone etiquette; concepts of grammar and punctuation. Skills Perform multiple non-technical tasks with ability to upgrade skills to meet changing conditions. Operate standard office equipment and data systems such as SAP, SubFinder, PowerSchool; prepare and maintain accurate records. Abilities Schedule activities and/or meetings; collate data; use basic job-related equipment. Flexibility to work with others in varied circumstances; work with data utilizing defined processes. Work with significant diversity of individuals or groups; use job-related equipment; problem solving to identify issues and create action plans. Work with detailed information and data, meet deadlines and schedules, communicate with diverse groups, manage frequent interruptions, maintain confidentiality, read/write and communicate effectively. Qualifications Education: High school graduation or GED equivalent. Experience: One year clerical work with public contact and one year supervising children. Testing: None. Certificates & Licenses: Valid State of Washington Driver's License or equivalent mobility. Clearances: Criminal Justice fingerprint background clearance. Working Environment Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
