Transportation Supervisor

Reports to and evaluated by: Superintendent or his/her designee *If the Supervisor of Transportation and Mechanic roles are filled by the same individual, then that individual will report to and be evaluated by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Supervises, manages, and evaluates bus drivers, bus aides, substitutes, mechanics, trainers, inspectors and any other persons approved to work in the transportation department in accordance with district policy and applicable law
• Ability to complete routine reports
• Maintains records on all transportation personnel which consist of personnel training records, evaluations, complaints, copy of driver licenses, physicals, drug and alcohol records, and motor vehicle records, etc.
• Maintains records for preparation of state and local reports as prescribed by law and district policy
• Ensures all drivers have appropriate commercial driver license and attend necessary and/or required training
• Organizes and implements a bus driver training program covering all required federal, state and local laws
• Assists in the development of appropriate policies and procedures related to school transportation consistent with state law, federal law and ALSDE regulations
• Ensures that school bus safety inspections and drills are conducted regularly and documented in accordance with state and federal law and ALSDE regulations.
• Assesses incidents and complaints (e.g. other administrators, public agencies, parents, transportation regulation agencies, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation
• Reports all bus accidents in accordance with law and district policy
• Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, public agencies, parents, transportation regulation agencies, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs (e.g. routing software and Trip Planner software)
• Requests and monitors budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances and related financial activities, working collaboratively with the Superintendent and CSFO, for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed
• Collaborates with district payroll clerk/supervisor on time, attendance, and other payroll related tasks in the transportation department
• Facilitates and/or participates in meetings, conferences, and workshops for the purposes of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a District representative
• Interprets transportation procedures and regulations to general public and school staff.
• Proposes recommendations that may improve transportation service and efficiency such as, rules, regulation for drivers, aides and students, and facility improvement
• Ensures that the district bus fleet remains clean, safe, and in proper working condition
• Maintains and up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment in the transportation department
• Possess computer skills relevant to the position
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications: (Qualifications must be met within six months of employment)

• Must hold a valid Class A or B CDL with a passenger endorsement and be insurable for vehicle operation or obtain license and endorsement within six months of employment.
• Certified in accordance with Alabama State Board of Education requirements.
• Must be willing to submit to drug testing prior to employment and be willing to enter into a random drug and alcohol testing program thereafter.
• Must pass a school bus safety test administered by state transportation personnel within six months of employment. Thereafter, must be able to demonstrate to the state inspector, on a yearly basis, the ability to maintain the skill as well as the mental and physical capabilities to perform all tasks necessary to assure the safe maintenance of school buses.
• For those holding a professional educator certificate - Minimum: Master's Degree in Leadership or School Administration
• For those not holding a professional educator certificate - Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and verifiable job experiences in transportation and leadership

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

CONTRACT:

• 240 or 260 day assignment, 8 hours per day (salary will be calculated as shown on the Support Employee Salary Schedule for this position.
• Daily rate shown on schedule includes overtime.
