Job Title: Physical Therapist
Job Description
This Physical Therapist role focuses on delivering high-quality, evidence-based outpatient orthopedic care, with 100% of work time dedicated to direct patient care and related documentation. You will evaluate patients, design and implement individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans, fabricate and fit upper extremity orthotics when appropriate, and guide patients through their recovery to improve function, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life. The position offers strong clinical collaboration with orthopedic physicians and other providers, robust continuing education support, and opportunities for professional growth within a large, multi-site musculoskeletal practice.
Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care for the full duration of scheduled work time, including all required documentation in the electronic medical record.
Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations to determine appropriate plans of care and follow-up treatments, including cases where treatment consists solely of fabrication and/or distribution of finger, hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder orthotics.
Perform and document appropriate tests and measurements based on the patient's condition, such as strength, range of motion, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency.
Develop and administer individualized physical therapy treatment plans to decrease pain, increase range of motion and strength, and improve overall function.
Implement therapeutic interventions including, but not limited to, modalities, therapeutic procedures, manual therapy, and written home exercise programs, adjusting the plan as needed.
Meet or exceed established productivity standards as defined by the therapy practice.
Assess and document the effects of treatment at various stages of care, at minimum every 30 days, and modify treatment plans to achieve maximum patient benefit.
Document all treatments, patient responses, progress, and clinical outcomes in compliance with federal and state regulations and internal documentation requirements.
Select and document appropriate CPT codes that accurately reflect treatments provided, and submit billing charges consistent with the amount and level of care delivered.
Follow all insurance guidelines and requirements related to coverage and reimbursement, coordinating care in line with current authorizations, referrals, treatment plans, and insurance benefit rules.
Supervise physical therapist assistants and other therapy support staff during patient treatments in accordance with state Physical Therapy Practice Acts and federal regulations.
Supervise and support student observations and clinical rotations as applicable, following federal and state regulations.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, and other medical providers to optimize patient recovery and ensure successful outcomes.
Actively participate as a member of the therapy team, including attending staff meetings, events, webinars, in-services, and departmental meetings.
Assist with the smooth operation of the clinic, which may include flexibility in scheduled hours and occasional coverage at other practice locations as needed.
Administer treatment in full compliance with federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and internal best-practice guidelines.
Work a minimum of two evening shifts per week and occasional Saturdays, depending on practice operating hours.
Maintain an active Physical Therapy license and any other required certifications by obtaining necessary continuing education units (CEUs) and fulfilling all state-specific requirements.
Provide administrative support related to treatment plans, documentation, coding, and billing processes as part of daily workflow.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support patient care and clinic operations.
Essential Skills
Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of practice.
A degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
CPR for Healthcare Providers certification.
Demonstrated experience in outpatient physical therapy, patient care, rehabilitation, and recovery planning, particularly in orthopedics and musculoskeletal conditions.
Proficiency in developing and implementing treatment and rehabilitation plans tailored to individual patient needs.
Experience and proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records systems.
Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively within a decentralized organization.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while consistently achieving results.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
Ability to sit for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 pounds using proper body mechanics.
Capability to perform frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting throughout the workday.
Capacity for regular exertion involving heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling as required in patient care.

Ability to contribute positively to a laid-back yet professional therapy department culture focused on patient relief and functional improvement.
Work Environment
This role is based in a musculoskeletal and orthopedic practice serving patients from Frederick County, Maryland and the surrounding area. The practice offers a full spectrum of orthopedic services, including sports rehabilitation, joint replacement, rheumatology, hand and upper extremity care, foot and ankle care, and pediatric orthopedics, with a strong emphasis on exhausting conservative treatment options before surgery and thoroughly educating patients about surgical and rehabilitation plans when needed. The open gym area supports active rehabilitation and may feature stationary bikes, treadmills, balance boards, foam rollers, free weights, resistance machines, parallel bars for gait training, and mats for floor exercises. The environment is collaborative, with close interaction with orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, and other healthcare professionals. Typical schedules include at least two evening shifts per week and occasional Saturdays, depending on clinic operating hours, and may require occasional coverage at other locations.
