Registered Nurse RN PACU

Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse RN PACU to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in our busy post-anesthesia care unit. As a leading healthcare provider in San Antonio, Methodist Hospital offers a full spectrum of services, from emergency care to highly specialized surgery, and our PACU nurses play a critical role in ensuring safe, high-quality recovery for patients emerging from anesthesia. Responsibilities In this role, you will provide comprehensive post-anesthesia nursing care to adult and pediatric patients following surgical and procedural interventions. You will be responsible for continuous assessment and monitoring of patients’ airway, breathing, circulation, pain, level of consciousness, and overall hemodynamic status as they transition from the operating or procedure room through Phase I and Phase II recovery. Using your clinical expertise, you will recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, intervene promptly, and collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. The Registered Nurse RN PACU will perform thorough pre- and post-operative assessments, document all findings and interventions accurately in the electronic medical record, and ensure that patients meet established discharge criteria before transfer or release. You will administer IV fluids, medications, blood products, and pain management therapies per protocol, manage post-operative nausea and other anesthesia-related side effects, and operate PACU monitoring and life-support equipment confidently and safely. This position requires strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. You will be expected to maintain strict adherence to infection prevention practices, hospital policies, and regulatory standards while promoting a safe, healing environment for patients and families. Education and communication are also key components of the role; you will provide clear instructions and support to patients and their families regarding post-operative expectations, medications, wound care, and follow-up appointments.
