Nurse Education Manager – Outpatient Oncology Location: Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) Description The Nurse Education Manager is an advanced role involving the management, assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of clinical and educational activities, including orientation, staff development, and competency assessments. Responsibilities Lead nursing practice using the tenets of the Professional Practice Model of Relationship‑Centered Care and the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing to promote the patient experience. Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of Hourly Care Checks and role‑model expected behaviors. Integrate Care Checks into clinical activities to enhance Relationship‑Centered Care. Validate staff competency in Care Checks and provide consistent, meaningful feedback. Communicate quantitative and qualitative information regarding the patient experience to staff and the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team. Collaborate with the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/physician dyad and appropriately escalates concerns. Follow up on all patient concerns in a timely manner and provide service recovery as needed. Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through dialogue, body language, and actions. Oversee the nursing education budget, including capital equipment allocation, and make recommendations in line with MSHS financial goals. Maintain, review, and evaluate educational record‑keeping and reporting systems, modifying as necessary. Conduct and participate in meetings related to the area of assignment. Conduct and participate in research activities, including pilot studies/initiatives related to education, healthcare management, clinical practice, and other associated areas. Apply knowledge, skills, and communication techniques necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. Identify and modify approaches based on patient age‑specific needs and responses to treatment. Implement Relationship‑Centered Care and Modified Primary Nursing with support of Hourly Care Checks. Maintain patient/employee confidentiality and observe mandatory educational requirements. Review and formulate departmental and program objectives in accordance with corporate policies, strategies, and goals. Participate in the management of external consulting services. Serve as a management representative on committees and participate in the formulation of departmental policies and procedures. Recruit and retain hospital staff, evaluate staff competencies, and support performance improvement plans. Act as a management witness in disciplinary activities and support implementation of mission, vision, goals, and objectives. Mentor, coach, counsel, and discipline staff as needed and recognize staff participation in quality and safety initiatives. Facilitate organizational change initiatives and influence patient care decisions. Lead a shared decision‑making model and uphold collective bargaining agreements affecting staff. Develop and implement activities to achieve educational objectives; coordinate updates of orientation plans and track completion. Conduct orientation, in‑service, competency, cardiac life support programs, and participate in the Nurse Residency Program. Design, support, and lead a safe, therapeutic, patient‑centered care environment and foster a culture encouraging error reporting. Lead interdisciplinary quality improvement teams and communicate compliance with quality and safety metrics. Participate in daily management board processes and lead staff participation in quality and safety initiatives. Advance professional practice through scholarly, inquiry, and evidence‑based practice and participate in professional organizations. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field with experience in Nursing Education and/or Leadership; Master’s in Nursing Education preferred. Graduate program enrollment considered with close graduation dates. Professional board certification in clinical specialty or staff development recommended. Demonstrated competence and progressive experience in Education, Management/Administration, and the assigned clinical specialty. Licensed RN with current registration in New York State. All relevant American Heart Association Cardiac Life Support certifications required by assignment. ONS Chemotherapy Administration Certification required if assigned to oncology.
