Phlebotomist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Phlebotomist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, processing, and handling patient specimens while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with established laboratory procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced clinical, laboratory, or hospital environment and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection procedures, including blood, urine, and other laboratory samples.
• Accurately identify, label, process, centrifuge, split, store, and package specimens according to established protocols.
• Verify physician orders, laboratory requisitions, and specimen labels to ensure accuracy and proper testing requirements.
• Explain collection procedures to patients in a professional, courteous, and easy-to-understand manner.
• Demonstrate proficiency with straight needles, butterfly needles, and other specimen collection techniques.
• Maintain specimen integrity by following temperature, storage, and transportation requirements.
• Update and maintain accurate patient information and specimen documentation within company systems.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, record maintenance data, and assist with decontamination procedures.
• Support troubleshooting efforts, workflow improvements, and training initiatives as needed.
• Answer incoming calls and respond to laboratory-related inquiries while maintaining confidentiality.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, OSHA, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
• Participate in required departmental meetings, annual training programs, and continuing education activities.

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures in a laboratory, clinic, or hospital setting.
• Phlebotomy certification, where required by state regulations.
• Strong knowledge of specimen handling, processing, and transportation procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Preferred:

• Experience in a high-volume laboratory or healthcare environment.
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
• Previous experience training or mentoring team members.

Experience

• 1 to 2 years of relevant phlebotomy or laboratory experience.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
