Customer Access Analysis DBA

Location: 100% Remote

Duration: 6M Contract to Hire

This is an operational function that will include the identification of poorly written queries and working with end users via e-mail, one to one phone conversations and conference calls to discuss the queries and the business requirements so that an appropriate SQL solution can be recommended and coded based on the technology and database design.

The team consists of 4 members. All have the same responsibility. Primarily working with end users in tuning their queries and providing SQL tuning knowledge transfer to business users. There is a team lead who functions as a contributor as well.

Top responsibilities for this position include monitoring system alerts related to end users SQL queries, working exclusively with business end users in tuning SQL queries, prioritizing and organizing own work to meet deadlines as we have SLAs to meet, providing explanations and information to others on topics within area of expertise both within the team and with the customers.

The ideal candidate background includes 5-10 years of SQL tuning experience, exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, experience with multiple DBMS technologies (DB2 and Teradata), experience with large ad-hoc reporting warehouses, experience with the health insurance industry, experience with translating business requirements into SQL code, and understanding of various data models (star schema, hierarchical and relational).

Required skills include 5-10 years of SQL experience. Preferred skills include knowledge of reporting tools such as SAS, DB2 clients, TTU and Reportnet.

Interviews will be done over the phone, 2 rounds from my team, the technical interviews will involve questioning around real-life scenarios and how the candidate may work through the resolution within a technical stack (i.e. if they have Teradata experience they will need to explain how they have solved performance issues in Teradata in their past.)
