We serve Oregon customers of Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, NW Natural, Cascade Natural Gas and Avista, and SW Washington customers of NW Natural. Year over year Energy Trust is recognized as one of the 100 Best Nonprofits to Work For in Oregon.
Our Vision
Clean, affordable energy for everyone.
Our Commitment to Diversity
We recognize the lack of diversity in our industry, and we actively seek to address it with our hiring and retention practices as well as our values. We believe every person and their lived experience is integral to building a vibrant culture and delivering effective services to all customers we serve. We are committed to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, and we encourage candidates with diverse backgrounds and experience to apply.
Our Location
Energy Trust provides for a range of work location options, including remote, hybrid and in-office work. This position will represent Energy Trust in public settings and potentially at community events. We are open to candidates who live throughout Oregon and Washington. The Program Manager would be expected to report to the office on a quarterly basis, at minimum.
What We’re Looking For:Under the general supervision of the Data and Automation Manager, the Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for shaping and executing the organization’s data architecture strategy to enable trusted, secure, and effective use of data in support of Energy Trust’s business objectives.
The Enterprise Data Architect translates business priorities into a coherent enterprise data architecture, defining standards for data models, integration, and analytics across transactional and analytical systems. Working closely with staff across the organization and with external technical and delivery contractors, the Enterprise Data Architect establishes a shared vision for how data is structured, integrated, and governed to improve data quality, decision-making and reporting.
In addition to strategic leadership, the Enterprise Data Architect performs hands-on architecture and design work, including developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models, designing data integration patterns, and contributing directly to key data initiatives. An essential responsibility of this position is owning and working closely with a variety of database-focused projects, processes, tools and systems that accommodate the organization's large, complex datasets (including, but not limited to utility customer information, weather data, financial data, aggregated reporting datasets, and data warehouse ETL processes).
The role balances pragmatism with best practices - implementing standards that fit Energy Trust’s current business model while remaining scalable for future growth. The Enterprise Data Architect acts as both a thought partner and a builder, ensuring that data solutions are well-designed, documented, and sustainable, and that teams across the organization can confidently use data as a strategic asset.
This individual works as part of the IT team and uses proven management, analytic, technical, communication, and collaborative problem-solving skills to help maximize the capabilities and use of the Energy Trust’s business system. This role serves as an integral part of the IT Department and, as such, may be called upon to perform other IT duties.
This position is expected to report to the Portland office quarterly at a minimum for all staff and other in-person meetings.
What You’ll Do:• Define and support data governance practices in collaboration with the Data Governance Committee, including data quality, stewardship, security, and appropriate use of data assets
•Define and maintain the organization’s enterprise data architecture vision and roadmap, aligned with business priorities
•Establish and implement data architecture standards, including data modeling conventions, integration patterns, metadata practices, and reference architectures
•Implement data architecture documentation standards and create and maintain documentation of Energy Trust data assets
•Collaborate with database developers in performing hands-on data architecture and design work for key initiatives, including data warehouses, integrations, and analytics platforms
•Design and deliver conceptual, logical, and physical data models for transactional, analytical, and reporting systems
•Create technical designs utilizing best practices and strongly influence technical architecture, considering current and future applications
•Create and maintain documentation of database application design and architecture
•Evaluate and make recommendations on business solutions based on knowledge of the organization’s enterprise data architecture goals and objectives
•Maintain a strong working knowledge of business functions and operational processes and how data is generated, used, and reported across the enterprise
•Assess emerging technologies, platforms, and tools related to data architecture, analytics, and integration, and recommend adoption where appropriate
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
What You’ll Need:•Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent professional experience in the information technology field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in data architecture and data engineering
• Strong experience designing enterprise data architectures across transactional and analytical systems
• Ability to develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models
• Expertise in defining and applying data standards, naming conventions, and reference architectures
• Understanding of data governance concepts, including data quality, metadata, stewardship, and lifecycle management
• Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on data architecture and design work, not just advisory or oversight functions
• Proficiency with relational databases and SQL; familiarity with Microsoft Dataverse or other modern cloud data platforms
• Advanced experience in MS SQL Server database administration using MS SQL Server Management Studio, and T-SQL programming
• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server SSRS and SSIS development
• Experience using Microsoft Fabric and Purview for data analytics and governance
• Experience with Microsoft Dataverse or other cloud data architecture
• Must have used source control tools such as Git to deliver products
• Collaboration with data engineers, developers, technical analysts, and business analysts to implement architectural designs
• Strong analytical thinking to balance ideal architecture with pragmatic constraints such as cost, staffing, and timelines
• Experience guiding data modernization or migration efforts from legacy systems to improved architectures
• Experience partnering with internal and external business stakeholders and IT leaders to gather requirements and design solutions
• Ability to document architectures, standards, and patterns clearly and concisely
• Experience in an Agile development methodology. Experience using Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools – Azure DevOps experience preferred.
• Strong analytical skills coupled with good written and verbal communications
• Ability to interact with a diverse workforce and be comfortable working in culturally diverse settings and groups
