Patient Care tech

Patient Care Technician As an integral part of the patient care team, the Patient Care Technician performs direct and indirect patient care functions under the supervision of appropriately licensed personnel. The Technician assists patients with personal care needs and participates in the plan of care. The technician regularly communicates observations and data collection to the Clinical Associate and collects test specimens as directed, following established procedures and documenting patient care activities. The Technician may perform limited laboratory services, including patient identification, specimen preparation, sample processing, quality‑control testing, instrument maintenance, and reporting of test results to clinicians, including critical values. The Technician assists customers in a friendly, prompt, caring manner, maintaining confidentiality and respect, and works as part of the care team to meet customer needs and support team objectives. Qualifications Education: High School degree or equivalent required. Certification: BLS from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire or transfer. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required within 1 year of hire or transfer (or until 10/31/25 for existing employees). Experience: Must be able to speak and write English; bilingual preferred. At least 8 weeks of Patient Care education or direct patient care experience required; enrollment in a nursing school or physician assistant program acceptable. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Interpersonal skills required to communicate with team members. Candidates must demonstrate flexibility, prioritization, problem solving, and good judgment in difficult situations. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at hire; training provided and required within 30‑60 days. Performance Expectations Demonstrates the ability to perform department‑specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Work Environment Awareness of exposure to hazards in the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Approximately 25% of a workday involves reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching; 50% involves lifting 50‑100 pounds frequently with assistance. Physical ability required for computer use, standing, walking, and transport of equipment and patients.
