Description Miami Jewish Health is one of the largest providers of healthcare and living options for aging adults in the Southeast. Our four-star rated skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility is located on a beautiful 20+ acre campus just north of mid-town Miami.
We serve approximately 1200 patients and residents each year, providing a full range of long-term care, treatment, support, and post-hospitalization services. Job Title : Occupational Therapist MJH Job Summary Evaluates and treats patients to help restore or maintain their ability to perform activities of daily living. Establishes a treatment plan with interventions directed toward developing daily living skills, work readiness, play/leisure activities or enhancing educational performance skills. Teaches patients skills/techniques and how to use adaptive equipment for participating in activities of daily living. The occupational therapist considers sensory-motor integration, perceptual awareness, neuromuscular function, motivation, and cognitive or psychosocial components of performance. Provides supervision to support staff. Essential Job Functions • Completes a comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation and plan of care
• Develops a comprehensive treatment plan with goals that align with identified impairments for each participant to maximize potential • Begins discharge planning on evaluation and involves the patient, family and/or caregiver in establishing goals for rehabilitation and discharge planning, as evidenced in the documentation • Reviews patient's status at regular intervals and changes the treatment program as necessary • Participates in and provides in-service education to facilities, supportive staff, students, and the community
• Attends both departmental and IDT (interdisciplinary team) meetings • Establishes a cooperative working relationship between the IDT, rehab team and members of the medical community • Supervises and trains support personnel • Documentation aligns with best practice standards and is accurate and timely
• Identifies potential problem situations, intervenes appropriately, and communicates such events to supervisor • Performs related non-clinical services necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the department, and adjusts schedule as required
• Demonstrates willingness to work across clinical service lines, including inpatient, outpatient, and PACE as needed Job Requirements Education: • Master's degree preferred Experience: • One year experience in occupational therapy and experience working with the geriatric population preferred Licenses/Certifications: • Florida licensed occupational therapist • Current BLS certification Abilities Required • Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body mechanics and body substance precautions to protect self, patients and personnel working with therapist • Effective written and oral communication skills Bilingual English/Spanish preferred • Good problem solving and clinical judgment skills • Demonstrate ability to take initiative, be adaptable and work well independently • Be well organized, flexible, dependable, and punctual • Ability to work well with staff, individuals, and participants of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds • Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office, Excel) Functional Demands Environment Work Conditions • Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation
• Proximity to moving mechanical parts, and housekeeping/cleaning agents Infectious Material Exposure • Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues Physical Requirements • Demonstrates the ability to perform the following tasks without posing a threat to the health and safety of those involved (employee, co-workers, caregivers, patient): lift, turn, move, position and transport patients in and out of bed, chair, bathtub, wheelchair, lift, etc. • Sedentary tasks related to job 20% • Physical tasks- approximately 80% • Demonstrates the ability to perform a minimal assist transfer. Minimal assist transfers are defined for purpose of this document as the ability to lift and control 50 pounds • Exerts up to 100# of force occasionally, 50# frequently and 20# constantly. (Heavy physical demand) Organizational Expectations • Ensures that resident's/patient's rights are adhered to • Demonstrates professionalism and accountability • Demonstrates a caring attitude consistent with Miami Jewish EmpathicareSM toward MJH residents, patients, family members, employees, and other facility guests • Demonstrates excellent communication skills • Ensures confidentiality and security of patients' medical information • Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication • Able to speak, read and write English • Able to think and act calmly to meet unusual occurrences of the job • Adheres to the organization's Mission, Vision and Values • Participates in departmental activities, meetings and in-services and follows established guidelines • Maintains a safe working environment The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
