Texas Fire Museum

Full Time - (Monday through Thursday) – No Holidays or Weekends

Pay - $28 - $40 per hour depending on experience

Do you like working on antique trucks? The Texas Fire Museum is in need of a very special mechanic to join our restoration team. Do you have the skills to figure things out that you have never worked on before? From engines and transmission to vacuum pumps and brakes, we perform complete restorations and repairs on antique fire apparatus. We are looking for that special person to join our team and help us continue our mission of preserving antique fire apparatus for museums and owners from around the country.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle diagnostics — Perform accurate troubleshooting on gas and diesel systems.
General repairs — Brakes, suspension, cooling systems, electrical, drivability.
Diesel systems — Fuel systems, DEF, emissions, turbo components.
Preventive maintenance — Oil changes, inspections, fluid services.
Customer communication — Provide clear explanations when needed.
Shop teamwork — Work with service writers and other techs to keep workflow smooth.

Requirements

5–10 years experience in automotive or diesel repair.
Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
Experience with engine rebuilding, assembly and coordination of outside engine machine shop work.
Strong knowledge of vehicle wiring, ignition systems including points, condensers and magneto operation.
Knowledge and experience with brake systems including mechanical, hydraulic, vacuum booster assisted and air brakes.
Knowledge and experience with manual transmission and differential systems.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision but also be a valuable part of our restoration team. Willingness to share knowledge with other team members.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Own basic tools (we provide specialty tools).
ASE certifications a plus but not required.
