1:1 Nurse

School Nurse Position

Wellesley Public Schools is seeking a School Nurse to provide direct, individualized medical care and classroom support for a medically-complex student currently attending an out-of-district placement. This role is essential for ensuring the student's health and well-being, facilitating their participation in classroom activities, and implementing their Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) directives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct Care:
• Provide 1:1 medical care tailored to the needs of the student, including during transport to and from school.
• Administer daily and emergency medications as per the IHCP.
• Perform specialized procedures as indicated in the IHCP.
• Support Activities:
• Assist the student with mobility, positioning, and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to enhance classroom participation.
• Act as the first responder for the assigned student, administering emergency treatments as necessary.
• Documentation and Compliance:
• Record nursing care, treatment, and medication administration in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and state board regulations.
• Update the student's health record using the SNAP electronic system.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with the educational team, including special educators and the district's lead school nurse.
• Attend IEP and Section 504 meetings to discuss student progress and health needs.
• Collaborate with the student's external healthcare providers to bridge medical needs and educational goals.

Qualifications:

• DESE certification required
• Current RN license
• Current CPR certification
• Must be physically capable of lifting, positioning, or managing students as required by their care plan
