Join Our Team: Sommelier at Shmoné
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our front-of-house team at our One Michelin Star restaurant, Shmoné. Located in the West Village of Manhattan, Shmoné offers an exceptional dining experience with Chef Eyal Shani’s signature Israeli cuisine. As part of The Better Guys restaurant group, we are committed to excellence and are looking for someone who shares our values and dedication to hospitality.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert wine service tailored to each guest’s preferences.
- Educate guests about our wines and enhance their dining experience by explaining wine characteristics, origins, and tasting notes.
- Assist guests in selecting beverages, including wine, spirits, and other drinks, when appropriate.
- Support the service team with wine-related questions or requests during service.
- Manage wine service and inventory during service, ensuring the highest standard of quality.
- Ensure wine glasses and decanters are clean, polished, and well-prepared for service.
- Maintain a sophisticated, welcoming atmosphere in the dining room, enhancing the overall guest experience.
Skills & Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a sommelier or wine steward in an upscale or fine-dining restaurant environment.
- In-depth knowledge of wines, wine pairings, and global wine regions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with guests and staff professionally.
- A passion for providing exceptional service and educating guests about wine.
- Must be enthusiastic, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
- Experience with POS systems (Toast) and reservation platforms (Resy) preferred.
- Certification from a recognized wine program (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET) is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the entire team and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
