Water Service Worker II

Lynwood is a vibrant and diverse Los Angeles County community serving approximately 67,000 residents. This recruitment is to establish an eligibility list to fill one (2) current Water/Waste Water Worker II, full-time vacancies within the Public Works Department. The recruitment is scheduled to close on May 14, 2026 but can close at any time with or without prior notice. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply immediately. This is a benefited, full-time position with working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Public Works Department. Candidates may be required to work irregular hours, various shifts, weekends, holidays and/or on-call status.
Under general or direct supervision, constructs, operates, maintains, inspects and repairs water treatment, water supply and water distribution facilities such as wells, Metropolitan Water District (MWD) connections, pumping stations, reservoirs, treatment plants and components.
Class Level II: This is the journey level classification in the Water Service/Wastewater Worker series. Positions allocated to the classification perform the full range of Water Service and Wastewater duties. Under the general supervision, performs the journey-level duties of the classification as listed under the example of duties below; and must possess at least a valid DWOCP Grade I (or higher) Water Treatment Operator AND a valid DWOCP Grade II (or higher) Water Distribution Operator certificates issued by the State of California.
Minimum of two years of paid experience as a Water Service/Wastewater Worker I or equivalent, performing above job descriptions. Able to proficiently perform all of Class Level I duties. Performs field water quality testing such as color, turbidity, pH, and chlorine residual. Conducts water quality sampling for all source water and water distribution systems Maintains and repairs chemical feed equipment and analytical equipment. Makes calculations dealing with quantity, rate and volume of water flow. Evaluates system functions through recording and indicating instruments. Installation and modification of plumbing and piping systems which regulate water flow through the system. Repair, maintain and replace water facility components. Understand water distribution system hydraulics and adjust as necessary under supervision. Understand water system demand and adjust flow as necessary under supervision. Performs other related duties as required.
Must possess a valid Grade I (or higher) Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the State of California Department of Public Health. Possession of a Class B driver's license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles with airbrake and tank endorsements, Class A is desirable. Grade I is allowed 6 months from the date of appointment to obtain the Class B license. Possession of a valid Class B CDL is a condition of appointment. Loss of the Class B license will result in the termination of the incumbent. One or more years recent experience in the operation and evaluation of water pumping and control systems, including the operation and maintenance of pumps, valves, and related mechanical equipment such as chemical feed machines, chlorinators, and/or other technical precision equipment. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Willingness to work various shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours as needed.

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to use oral and written communications skills; read documents or instructions; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret data or information; use math and mathematical reasoning; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work; work under changing, intensive deadlines with constant interruptions; perform multiple, concurrent tasks. The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and on slippery and uneven surfaces. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electric shock.
