Bright Minds PPEC is a licensed Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care center serving children with complex medical needs in Homestead, Florida. Our team provides skilled nursing care, coordinated healthcare services, developmental support, and a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Pediatric Registered Nurse to serve as our full-time Director of Nursing. This is a hands-on clinical leadership position for an RN who has recent experience caring for medically fragile children and is prepared to lead a professional nursing team in an AHCA-regulated PPEC environment.

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing is responsible for leading the daily nursing and clinical operations of the PPEC center. The Director works closely with the Administrator, Medical Director, attending physicians, families, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure that every child receives safe, individualized, and properly documented care.

The ideal candidate is a dependable pediatric nursing leader with excellent clinical judgment, strong organizational skills, a thorough understanding of regulatory compliance, and a genuine commitment to supporting children and their families.

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the daily nursing and clinical operations of the PPEC center.
• Supervise, support, schedule, and evaluate Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct-care personnel.
• Maintain appropriate nursing assignments, skill mix, and staffing levels based on the center’s census, children’s medical needs, and applicable PPEC staffing requirements.
• Ensure that physician orders, medical plans of treatment, individualized nursing protocols, medication orders, treatments, special diets, precautions, and emergency plans are properly implemented.
• Monitor the quality, accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of nursing notes, medication and treatment records, care protocols, incident reports, and other clinical documentation.
• Coordinate care and maintain effective communication with parents and guardians, attending physicians, the Medical Director, therapists, pharmacies, hospitals, medical equipment providers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Communicate professionally and compassionately with families regarding each child’s condition, progress, changes in care, and identified concerns.
• Participate with the Administrator and Medical Director in developing, implementing, reviewing, and updating clinical and child-care policies and procedures.
• Participate in the center’s quality assurance program, including medical-record reviews, identification of care concerns, corrective-action planning, and monitoring the implementation of improvements.
• Monitor nursing performance and provide coaching, education, counseling, and performance evaluations when appropriate.
• Coordinate employee orientation, nursing competencies, quarterly staff-development activities, and required clinical training.
• Ensure that nursing staff maintain current licenses, CPR certifications, competencies, and other required credentials.
• Promote compliance with AHCA PPEC regulations, Florida nursing standards, physician orders, HIPAA requirements, infection-control practices, emergency procedures, and applicable Medicaid and payer requirements.
• Review accidents, unusual incidents, medication variances, changes in condition, hospitalizations, and other clinical events, and ensure that required follow-up and documentation are completed.
• Maintain clinical and regulatory survey readiness and assist with AHCA inspections, plans of correction, audits, and quality-improvement activities.
• Provide direct nursing support, clinical guidance, and emergency response when necessary.
• Promote a respectful, collaborative, child-centered, and family-centered workplace culture.

Required Qualifications

• Current, active Florida Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification.
• Minimum of two years of general pediatric nursing experience.
• At least six months of experience caring for medically fragile infants or children in a pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, PPEC center, or similar pediatric care setting within the past five years.
• Availability to serve full-time and work on-site at the PPEC center in Homestead, Florida.
• Ability to satisfy all applicable AHCA Level 2 background-screening and employment eligibility requirements.
• Strong pediatric assessment, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and emergency-response skills.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, educate, motivate, and hold nursing employees accountable.
• Excellent verbal communication, written communication, documentation, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple clinical and administrative priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Previous experience as a Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or other clinical leadership role.
• PPEC, PICU, NICU, pediatric home health, pediatric skilled nursing, or complex-care experience.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
• Experience with AHCA surveys, quality assurance, Medicaid documentation, policy development, incident management, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with electronic medical records and pediatric clinical documentation.
• Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
