Scientific Project and Alliance Manager – Immunology The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science. The mission of the Allen Institute for Immunology is to advance the fundamental understanding of human immunology through the study of immune health and diseases where excessive or impaired immune responses drive pathological processes. The Institute will employ a multi-disciplinary team approach in collaboration with academic centers of human immunology to generate novel mechanistic insights into the immune synapse in health and in diseases such as autoimmunity or oncology. The Institute will simultaneously provide a foundational data set and tools for future immunological research as well as a novel collaboration portal for the broader scientific community. We are seeking a Scientific Project and Alliance Manager to join our team in supporting the mission and vision of gaining a deep understanding of the Human Immune System during health and disease. The Institute utilizes an Alliance Business Model, leveraging the strengths of multiple partners dedicated to common goals advancing science and solutions in Immunology. Reporting to the Director of Scientific Operations, this position will support the execution of multiple projects in the areas of Tissue Immunity and Neuroimmune Interactions. The successful candidate will possess a strong scientific foundation, have exposure to working with large and complex data sets, and will have demonstrated progressive abilities and responsibilities as a professional Scientific Project and Alliance Manager. As a leader, collaborator and effective communicator, this role can drive momentum and build consensus, working at the interface of multi-site and multi-disciplinary teams. Essential Functions In partnership with scientific co-leads for projects, serve as a Project Manager to ensure the successful execution of project deliverables by supporting our cross-functional teams through planning and execution phases Organize and lead internal and external project meetings with clear agendas, expected outcomes, following-up on project-related actions and performance tracking metrics Keep project milestones on track, anticipating and communicating at-risk deliverables. Work with team members to identify options and implement mitigation strategies Create, maintain, and disseminate project deliverables and timelines using project management best practices and tools Provide an efficient and flexible collaborative environment to manage internal and external project team communication and collaboration, leveraging software tools such as MS Teams, Google Workspace, SharePoint, Smartsheet, etc. Partner with scientific staff to assist with development of competitive external funding applications (Federal and Private). Ensure that Grants Management best practices are followed Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Research and support post-award execution of externally funded efforts in audit-compliant fashion including contracts, sub-awardees, budget tracking/variance reporting, prior approval requests, carry forward requests and agency reporting Maintain clear and consistent channels of communication and documentation with internal and external stakeholders Lead project teams through business-relevant processes including budgeting (forecasting and monitoring) and progress reporting Represent the project teams with internal finance, legal, and communications groups Synthesize inputs into clearly written status/progress reports, coordinating information across internal teams and external partners Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Required Education and Experience PhD in biology, immunology, biomedical science, or related field; or equivalent combination of degree and experience One (1) year of project management experience in a scientific or technical environment Experience in the use of project management, collaboration management, communication, and dashboard/reporting tools Demonstrated success working in large and complex scientific projects Preferred Education and Experience Formal project management training and/or PMP certification is highly desired A strong understanding of biology (particularly neuroscience, cell science, or immunology) and/or computational analysis methods is a strong plus A team player and leader with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; able to navigate challenging group dynamics, work effectively across scientific, technical, and business interfaces Proven track record of building and sustaining strategic collaborations, including managing relationships across geographically distributed partner sites Experience with federal funding applications and grants management, and leading large-scale, externally funded initiatives or consortia Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to transparent communication and effective project execution Financially savvy, with demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and monitor budgets and performance metrics Self-motivated and adaptable, thriving in complex, matrixed environments; skilled at managing ambiguity, aligning stakeholders, and influencing outcomes Culturally astute, with the ability to bridge differences between academic and industry settings and resolve conflicts constructively Resilient and change-ready, with a history of navigating transitions effectively and supporting teams through organizational change May enter laboratory environment, including potential exposure to lasers, biohazards Physical Demands Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State. Travel Attendance at national conferences may be required Additional Comments This position does not provide work visa sponsorship or relocation assistance Annualized Salary Range $117,900 - $147,350 * * Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
