Product Development Engineer - Asia Manufacturing (Mandarin-Speaking)

Location: Onsite or Hybrid (Travel Required)

Job Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Product Development Engineer with a strong background in mechanical and/or electrical engineering and experience working directly with overseas manufacturers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and sourcing cost-effective product solutions based on customer requests. This person will work closely with suppliers-primarily in China and other parts of Asia-to manage the full product development cycle from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Review customer product requests and specifications and identify viable manufacturing solutions
• Collaborate directly with manufacturers in China/Asia to develop or reverse-engineer products
• Work step-by-step with factories to ensure product quality, pricing, and delivery timelines
• Conduct cost analysis and source alternate materials or production methods as needed
• Coordinate sampling, revisions, and compliance testing
• Negotiate pricing, MOQs, and contract terms with international suppliers
• Travel to Asia for factory visits, sample approvals, and supplier relationship management

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in product development or engineering roles
• Must speak Mandarin fluently (spoken and written)
• Proven experience working with international manufacturers, especially in China
• Strong understanding of product cost structures, prototyping, and production scaling
• Excellent communication and project management skills
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with consumer goods, industrial products, or hardware
• Familiarity with quality control processes and manufacturing compliance standards
• Prior experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships
