Physician | Regional Chair | Department of Internal Medicine | Eastern Division

Position Summary The Regional Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine – Eastern Division is responsible for the overall clinical, educational, scholarly and service mission of the Department on the Eastern campus of the WVU School of Medicine and WVU Medicine East. The role ensures the highest quality of care and service, maintains consistency in standards of practice, and fosters scholarly advances in the field. Responsibilities and Duties Administrative (50%): oversee departmental operations, budget, staff recruitment, retention, and strategic planning in collaboration with WVU leadership. Education (50%): coordinate educational standards for medical students, residents, and allied health learners; supervise residency program and faculty development; evaluate promotion and tenure. Clinical Leadership : provide patient care with oversight of clinical operations, credentialing, privileging, and quality improvement. Hospital Operations : collaborate with hospital leadership on inpatient services, productivity, quality metrics, and policies. Research & Scholarship : support and mentor faculty in research projects; encourage grant funding and interdisciplinary collaboration. Financial Management : manage departmental finances, budgeting, compensation, and capital improvements. Community Relations & Outreach : build relationships with community leaders, professional societies, and alumni; represent the department externally. Strategic Planning : participate in ongoing strategic initiatives aligned with Eastern Division and WVU Medicine East. Specific Duties : direct patient care, teach, execute departmental budget, oversee clinical, educational, and scholarly activities, hire and replace faculty, conduct faculty evaluations, ensure accreditation, and promote professional development. Qualifications Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with ongoing maintenance of certification. Eligible for licensure in West Virginia with an active license once achieved. Ten years or more of clinical experience in Internal Medicine or its specialties. Demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine. Experience teaching medical students and residents.
