Job Title: Forensic Mechanical Engineer

About the job 
· We are a forensic engineering and machinery consulting firm headquartered in Mount Prospect, Illinois. 
· Insurance carriers, independent adjusters, and their counsel retain us when equipment and machinery fail - fire, smoke, water, pressure release, structural failure, mechanical breakdown - and someone has to establish what happened, what it will cost, and how to return the insured to pre-loss condition. 
· Our deliverable is an opinion that must survive scrutiny. Adjusters set reserves and make coverage decisions based on it. Opposing experts and attorneys challenge it. 
· Those standards shape everything below. You would be the mechanical expertise on a team that also includes electrical engineers and equipment specialists. 
· Assignments range across manufacturing, process, commercial, and institutional facilities - no two losses are alike, and you will not be doing the same inspection twice.

Responsibilities:
· Provide industry-leading technical consulting services and project management services in insurance loss situations. This includes but is not limited to the following tasks:
· Traveling and performing site visits and inspections.
· Conduct research on the insured's business and machinery.
· Reporting and opining on repair vs. replacement, restoration, costs, etc.
· Project managing loss situations to return the insured to pre-loss condition efficiently.
· Being the eyes and ears for the insurance adjuster and keeping them apprised of developments, delays, concerns and otherwise.
· Sourcing and managing vendors as necessary to restore the insured to pre-loss condition.
· Coordinating repair and replacement timelines.
· Coordinating the efforts of vendors, OEMs, and numerous parties.
· Calling out betterments, upgrades, and discrepancies wherever possible, with an emphasis on saving our client time and money.
· Assignments are matched to your expertise and your comfort with the equipment involved. 
· Responsible for providing excellent customer service and know-how that exceed our customer's expectations.
· Objectivity and accuracy are critical when providing your analysis. Always report a defendable position that will stand up to a legal challenge, and write with the understanding that your reports, notes, photographs, and correspondence are discoverable.
· You must synthesize an engineering-level analysis for a claims adjuster with no technical background while producing a record that holds up in litigation.
· Be timely with reports and deliverables. Update your clients on a regular basis, and tell them promptly when something changes, when you are waiting on information, or when a third party is slow to respond. Follow up with clients on desired deliverables and timing.
· You must gather and archive excellent documentation to support your findings. 
· Keep CLIENT staff current on your jobs. Post your availability and travel on the Outlook calendar, enter time and expenses in BQE Core daily, and follow all of CLIENT's standard operating procedures.
· Utilize CLIENT systems and software to track and stay within your project's budget. If you plan to exceed a budget, contact your manager and request approval from the client at 70% of the current budget.
· Participate in weekly CLIENT meetings to share, brainstorm and problem solve ongoing CLIENT projects.
· Assist with documenting and summarizing previous assignments to create marketing case studies.

Expectations:
· This is a full-time salaried position, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as necessary. Standard hours for CLIENT employees are 8am-5pm. Working weekends may be necessary on occasion for urgent assignments or travel.
· You will navigate active loss sites and climb onto equipment, ladders, catwalks, and other locations where the machinery is located.
· Travel is required and varies depending on the assignment.
· CLIENT will provide a laptop and cell phone for your CLIENT work.
· If you choose to end your employment with CLIENT, provide two weeks' notice to your manager.
