Summary This position functions as a Maintenance Worker within the Facilities Management service at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Fort Meade, SD and performs a variety of sub journey level trade tasks. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include: Plans, lays out, and completes work involving the repair, replacement, and installation of wood components such as siding, doors, paneling, ceiling tile, window and door frames, and door jams. Constructs shelving and simple frameworks; installs and replaces hinges, locks, catches, and related hardware. Performs medium grade finish work Repairs building infrastructure to include minor electrical and plumbing. Uses hand and power tools such as hammers, drills, handsaws, screwdrivers, routers, power saws, and sanders. Assists journeyman technicians with more complicated tasks including electricians, pipefitters and HVAC. Paints materials installed as part of repair work and performs touch up painting on interior and exterior surfaces. Ensures workmanship is free from skips, runs, and drips; uses brushes, rollers, spray guns, and related methods. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Exerts very heavy physical effort, routinely lifts/carries items up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier loads with assistance of lifting devices. Performs tasks requiring climbing ladders, prolonged walking, standing on hard surfaces, bending, stooping, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors in environments involving dirt, dust, fumes, grease, and varying temperatures from hot/humid to cold conditions.
