About the Position

Job Title: Paramedic II Profession: Paramedic Specialty: Advanced Life Support Paramedic Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day 3x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: One year ALS Paramedic experience required; preferred two to three years prehospital experience with moderate call volume (>15,000 calls/year) 911 agency. License: Current Class C driver's license from North Carolina or other state. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP. Must-Have: Knowledge of and appropriate application of Paramedic scope of practice. Description: The Paramedic II functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team providing direct patient care. The Paramedic performs a variety of activities across various practice settings and patient populations in accordance with the Paramedic scope of practice as defined by the Medical Board. Duties include providing direct patient care under the medical oversight of a Medical Director. Assists clinical staff in the evaluation, treatment, and care of patients. Obtains pertinent history and performs physical examinations. Performs technical procedures as delegated. Monitors patients and maintains records using patient monitoring systems and electronic health records. Documents patient status, delivery of care, and evaluations according to specific procedures and established protocols. Maintains informative and accurate medical records to initiate charges for each patient treated. Communicates essential information to all appropriate members of the healthcare team to promote information sharing throughout the continuum of care. Operates medical and mechanical equipment in the hospital and transport environment. Ensures all medical equipment is functioning and restocks medical supplies as needed. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Handles sharps, soiled materials, and linens and disinfects areas in accordance with relevant policies. Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and formal learners. Participates in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities. Maintains certifications and clinical skills. Completes vehicle inspection and documentation each shift and completes a road test of assigned ambulances. Responsible for minor repairs to the unit, including changing light bulbs, replenishing fluids, tightening nuts and bolts, and inspecting tires. Responsible for daily maintenance, including fueling and cleaning of the vehicle. Reports minor and major repair needs to the appropriate personnel. Assists with patient care as requested, including loading and unloading and the operation of commonly used equipment. Responsible for direct patient care on ALS I, ALS II, or BLS transports, documenting in the electronic medical record. Replenishes oxygen and medical supplies used during transport. Demonstrates safe driving skills and the ability to use technology to complete missions safely. Assists with continuing education outreach programs and public relations events as assigned. Responsible for providing staffing coverage to different bases as needed. Supports the environment of evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives. Physical requirements include the ability to walk, stand, sit, lift, reach, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, balance, and pull. Must be able to lift and support weights up to 75 pounds. Possesses an intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking. Ability to sustain focus and organization amid changing conditions. Must speak English in clear and understandable terms. Engages in professional development by maintaining required competencies and seeking educational opportunities.
