Diagnose and repair gas, diesel and heavy equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and general plant equipment or other tasks as assigned. Coordinate with other maintenance personnel and production crews as needed. Work on special projects with Maintenance Mechanic and/or Plant Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Work with other mechanics repairing equipment as needed. Perform general maintenance duties throughout facility. Help maintain safety, environmental and other equipment and programs as needed. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain machinery. Maintain machinery. Perform preventative maintenance on machinery. Perform inspections on fire system, water system, and cranes. Design and build new equipment for various processes. Modify old equipment as processes change. Work with Plant Manager on projects. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written, and have basic communication skills; interpersonal, written, and verbal, for dealing with all levels and associates, and reading instruction and parts manuals. Must have a basic knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, or electronics. Must have experience working on diesel engines and equipment: motors & forklifts Must be able to read blue prints. Must have basic computer skills. Must be able to operate the following tools and equipment: Hand tools Mobile and stationary equipment in plant. Drill press EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required, additional technical education and/or training is preferred. 1 – 3 years of Production Manufacturing maintenance support is highly regarded. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Over 2/3 of the time: Walking: Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Standing/Sit: Remain upright in a stationary position, particularly for sustained periods. Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling to use hand tools. Grasping” Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm to use hand tools Up to 2/3 of the time: Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas and information accurately, in written or diagram form. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound. Repetitive Motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers such as using hand tools. Less than 1/3 of the time: Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. ( This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.) Stooping: Positions self to 90 degrees (This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.) Kneeling/Crouching: Position self to work on the floor Crawling: Moving about to general maintenance tasks, few feet Reaching: Grabbing things from a distance above or from the side Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward of outward. Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
