Location: Newark, NJ

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: $80-110K

Position Overview

The Litigation Legal Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys in a fast-paced litigation practice. This role ensures efficient case management, document preparation, and coordination of legal processes. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, clients, and court personnel. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day administrative and legal support to attorneys, including managing calendars, correspondence, mail, and communications.
  • Prepare, edit, format, and organize legal documents, pleadings, correspondence, and other case materials.
  • Assist with electronic court filings in federal and state courts, including bankruptcy matters.
  • Support attorneys with case management, document organization, legal research, and trial preparation.
  • Prepare exhibits, trial binders, tables of contents/authorities, and other litigation materials.
  • Maintain electronic and physical case files and assist with document management.
  • Assist with attorney time entry, billing, expense reports, and other administrative processes.
  • Coordinate travel, meetings, court appearances, and other scheduling needs.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, vendors, and other internal and external contacts.
  • Provide backup support to other legal support staff as needed.

Required Experience/Skills

  • 7+ years of law firm experience, preferably supporting litigation attorneys.
  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, legal terminology, and court filing processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal technology/document management systems.

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience supporting attorneys in complex litigation or bankruptcy matters.
  • Familiarity with e-filing systems and case management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Current Notary Public commission or willingness to obtain one within the first six months.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Continuing education or certification in legal support or paralegal studies a plus.
  • Training in litigation support software or document management systems preferred.
  • Ongoing professional development encouraged to maintain current legal knowledge.
